I'm doing some long overdue maintenance on a '97 auto, fuel lines, heater, valve adj and so on. Customer wants a bit more performance and economy. Factory timing is at 14* now. I'm going to move the factory plate just a tad, maybe a boost elbow. Any suggestions on timing? Has recently upgraded tranny. No other mods at all.
Thanks

16* for all around mileage and performance is the general consensus. But if I were you I'd set it at 25* and see if he notices (kidding)...

I knew 16* was good for the 215 pumps, like mine, wasn't sure of the 180's. Thanks, and don't think I will take it beyond that.

I have a 94 with a 5speed with the timing set to 16* with a #10 fuel plate slide all the way forward and waist gate caped. its quick and a dang good tow rig!
