Anyone know where I can find a port to get a tranny temp reading... Need to install some gauges for a bud's 05 CRD megacab...

There aren't any good ports on the 48RE's that I know of. You may want to tap the pan or splice a compression tee in the line?

Call SunCoast and order a Mag-Tech pan, has probe port. They can tell you what to look for as well.

That's really nice. I wonder what the temp difference is between that and the pan?

The main difference is reaction time, when I see it getting warm I can take action before the trans is too hot.

I think if you get your reading from the pan it takes much longer to see the heat building up, it also takes longer to cool the trans. too.

Good Idea...... but most folks will just keep on push'n. Hell, I'm guilty of it myself. I've been in the 230+ range 4 or 5 times.

Well the only time I have seen my temps take a jump is when I'm backing my toy hauler up a steep hill.

When the tc is locked these trucks stay really cool.

yeah, that they do.....untill you're hooked to a 28,000 trailer run'n 73 MPH up a 2 mile 3+% grade. LOL

Wow Burner, the most I have hauled is 11k trailer, temps have never been a problem.

When you are running at that speed is your tc locked?

Oh yeah, it's locked. Both of my Dodges lock like a vise. It's kind'a funny if you're only pull'n 18k or so.....your coffee can spill when it locks in OD. LOL
The tow/haul button REALLY helps with these (48RE's I think?) transmissions. However, once you get pulled down 4 to 10 MPH, get readdy for a scream'n good time. LOL

Mine stays locked all the time, no matter what gear I jam it in LOL LOL

BTW Rich, if you are losing steam on a measly 3% grade you need MO' POWER!!! :evil

Yeah, pull'n a 3-5% grade with 27K hooked will slow me down. Ya gott'a remember that 27k for the load plus about 9k for the truck is 36,000 lbs roll'n down the road .....or up it. LOL Expecting 5.9 liters to pull about 40% of what a C-15 is pulling is a LOT. .......Then again, it is a Cummins! :rockwoot:

Good programmer+good tranny=passing folks on the grade :evil

Oh yeah, it's a LOT of fun LOL LOL

Acu Temp

The Acu Temps that are distributed by Geno's Garage, work awsome, my boss came up with them and Geno's distribute them for us, they clamp onto the hot-line so no spillage of oil, and since it is the hot line you are getting the most accurate reading. they sell for right around $32 i believe we use alot of them and they work awsome, any questions let me know

Perhaps a link for those of us that are too lazy to find it on our own?
