Ok, i know how the A/R of an exh housing effects spool... But how does the A/R on the comp side effect things? Does a tighter comp A/R make the turbo more responsive?

Not as dramatic but it works in a similar fashion.

Generally speaking the big covers sacrifice some pressure ratio to get more mass flow, but again it is not dramatic loss of P.R.

A lot of the "race covers" you read about are exactly that. HP does come up in most cases.

As far as general responsiveness, that has more to do with turbine, housing AR, and wheel size.

The big 3 are mainly concerned with OEM contracts for high volume turbos.

A lot of times, "upgrade" parts are essentially stolen from other OEM units because there's thousands being made and the cost is reasonable. Making a special aftermarket casting is virtually unheard of because the market is tiny and there is no economy of scale.

For example, typical GT42 sized chargers all run 0.69 A/R covers. You can find larger covers, 0.81 A/R for example, but unless someone at Garrett makes that part available, it can be a real adventure to find it.

So, long story short, if 0.66-0.69 A/R works for almost every common application, that's what you get.

And as I said before, unless you are pushing something to the absolute limits, compressor A/R isn't your first place to look for improvements.
