What are the rules on vendor advertising?

Are there any rules in place here for vendors that just randomly pop into a tech thread and post up about parts they have in stock and want to sell when the original poster is not even looking to buy parts?
 
If they are a site sponsor, they can, but it is not exactly encouraged. If they are not, then those posts should be reported so we can slap some hands. Our members dojnt come here to read infomercials in threads.

its one thing if the thread is about someone who is looking for Product X to fix his truck, but in a tech thread that is about problems with Product X someone already has installed, and a vendor shows up to say "Hey we have lots of Product X in stock at the best prices please call us at XXX-XXX-XXXX" its kind of annoying IMO.

I like the non infomercial feel here!
 
So would it be inappropriate in this thread to offer services or drugs that will make the annoying stuff go away?
