Will an 01 engine work in a 99?

My friend has a 99 with a cracked 53 block. He found an 01 engine for a good deal. Do the 01 and 02 engines still have the tone ring on the crank like the 98.5-00's do?

No they do not.

Alright so all we'd have to do is swap the crank from the 53 block into the 01 block?

The timing covers are different as well, not that it matters as far as the truck running right, but it might throw a CEL with no cam signal on the 99. While your at it, might as well swap the cover too.

I don't think the later blocks have the hole for the sensor.

any storm block has the hole for the sensor even the storm 12v's they just simpley have a block off plate. oke:

My 02 has the hole for the crank sensor, it's just blocked off

I had a buddy that did this. I think he had problems and ended up swapping the computer also as the easiest solution.

i think you would have to swap the ecm wiring harness as the map sensor reads differnt than the 99 oke:

only problem we had was the tach didn't work, changed the front covers and everything is now gravy.
