Project #braaapptruck

i had a tork tek for a short period of time. went to a regulated return. no more ridiculous pressure drops.

Some updates.....

We blew the HG, well...it had a water leak out the front side...turns out, it just blew a small piece out the corner. We ripped the head off and sent it to Darren Morrison for some fire ring love. I also added titanium keepers and retainers at the same time. We went to the track to make a first pass and broke the stock intermediate. So naturally the trans went back to Lavon for a billet intermediate..we got the head back on just in time for our dyno day, so I'm still stock lift pump and at 25*....but the ole girl laid down a healthy 696 on fuel and 834 on a pretty much empty bottle...I was stoked. I am completely enjoying this truck.

No Idea. It actually just developed a small water leak off the front right side... no pressure or anything even under boost. Upon removal a piece of the gasket was missing.

Well hell, just make sure you install a complete gasket next time.

Not at all...all cutting one coil would do is lower the truck. The spring rate isn't affected. If it doesn't handle well I'll install lowering coils.

Awesome work, I like the thread a lot. I just wanted to let you know that it does effect the spring rate. It makes the springs stiffer.

Here's the equation for spring rate:

Spring rate = k = (mod of rigidity of material*(wire diameter^4))/(8*number of coils*(outer diameter of coil - wire diameter)^3)

So the simplified version of this is a single coil takes, say 100 lbs to compress 1". If you put another coil on top of it, it only takes 50 lbs because they're both only compressing .5" each.

I believe 2nd gen stock coil springs have six active coils, so removing one of those increases your spring rate ~20%. The reason it handles better is because stiffer spring rates handle cornering better at the sacrifice of comfort. You also lowered your CG (Center of Gravity) of the truck which helps.

Just thought I'd share some Maths! Keep up the good work on this truck!

Any updates?

I actually sold the truck to a good customer of ours. He drove it for a while and ended breaking a headstud. He ripped the head off and there was quite a bit of scoring on the cylinder walls. so we decided to tear down for a rebuild. Its coming back with monotherms, a Girdle and a hamilton Cam. We should have it back going in the next couple of weeks. but I can tell you the mains were shot. bad. This bottom end most definetly had the miles on it for sure.
