Truckers, lets see your rigs!

The 171702 works out well on a C12? 172743 K31 Is typically what guys love because it spools well and bolts directly in place of the GTA4294 (which is junk). I may have to have one of my guinea pigs try the 171702. Some have run the 171701 S471 but weren't crazy about the idea of no wastegate. I have sold a few to the ISX guys but most aren't happy about losing so much of their braking.

Yes sir. Good upgrade for a C12. Pull the VGT off a 2250/2350 and holding your hat out the window doubles the engine brake power. Lol

I've driven a good running c12 and it would make our other cats look like piles of chit. No idea what was done to it but it was a good setup.

To throw a wrench in... Say you were gonna convert an older truck to electronic...
5EK or 2WS?

Any would work. Anything electric is an upgrade over mechanical. Doesn't matter if it's a 3406B or a BC. That may or not be directed at SmokinCat. Lol

With electric you can give the Dmax guys a chub. Lmao https://vimeo.com/148381489

I love my mechanical engines, but I have this overwhelming desire to throw an electronic cat in my FLC, even if it is just a factory 5EK. I know everyone is doing it but I think it would top my truck off.

If I could only convince my dad to keep the 6NZ sitting in the donor truck in our yard....

I'm not a fan. You can work a 1000hp E with very little smoke or heat but couldn't even attempt to do it with a B

5ek and 6nz are almost identical except for outer block design, crank gear because 6nz has crank sensor and ECM. Everything else is the same

Then why does everyone rant and rave about the 6NZ? I knew the two serial numbers were similar but not that similar!

He has the 6NZ sold for, what I think a ton of money. Especially since it is putting oil in the water. But the guy he is selling it to has no interest in a 5EK.

I wish we could do a site sponsored engine build. Just to see what a monster could be built.

The hype of a 6nz is over rated. It isn't the best cat motor made nor the end all.

I was kinda thinking about trying out a 171701 for a little quicker spool. I lost some low end on the s60 with the 02 but it gives 38lbs when I ask for it which is 10 over stock. No waste gate and my egt are lower.

What kind of monster? Road, Dyno, 300' Monster?

There are a couple yellow engines out there running 3 chargers. One blew the block in half this past season....

That is over simplified somewhat.

The structures can end up identical. Inherently the block, pistons, rod, cam, cam gear, timing housing, water pump, oil cooler, injectors, rockers, are different. I'm know I'm not as well versed in this as Faulkner is because I only exchange designated parts.

The "will fit" is pretty broad as to what goes in which engine.

I would have to say the KRA being sold to Oshkosh is the strongest design level I've gotten to touch. ADEM4 with 2 coil injectors, nice cam and bottom end.

There are a few out there running the 701. They do really well. Tough to beat the 171702 on a tuned truck though.

LOL no doubt.

Good to hear on the C12. I think some tuning and a guinea pig is in order for us.

We had a 12.7 that had some sort of work done to it, it'd run right along with a stock 550 cat. The other nice thing about them is that they were probably the most popular fleet truck engine ever so parts are easy to find. Light, reliable and cheap to work on.

Single turbo 1000 real hp no smoke working engine with 1000-2000 rpm range.

What's the single turbo love? Just curious what turbo that will support 1000 working HP that will also spool fast enough to clean up smoke?

VGT maybe but that eliminates a ton of motors from the list of possible choices.

Keep this up Leifi and I'll call you Haney lol

There aren't any?

Faulkner said it was possible with a 5EK....

I wouldn't be surprised if they're out there.

An acert is doable I know, I'm not a fan of the 2pc pistons of the others for HP and this is why. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1449691513.086086.jpg. Not saying they can't do it because there are plenty that do. BUT the one piece steel Pistons can take a punch and keep going.

The 6NZ was the last engine that Cat really gave a damn in my opinion. That was right before the EPA ruined Diesel engines. If your going to keep everything "factory" (for the life of me can't understand why anyone would) the 6nz is a good motor. BUT one great thing about Cat is almost all the parts are interchangeable. You can put MXS acert injectors in a 2WS, you can use the entire rotating assembly out of an NXS into a 7CZ. We had a 2WS break a crank and used an MXS as a donor for crank/rods/Pistons/liners because we had an MXS had a cracked block. A 10R-8501 injector AKA '57 has been the same forever. Didn't matter if you had a 1995 5EK or a 7CZ C16 from 2002

They're like the 12.7 Detroit. If I'm the seller they're cast iron gold. In reality in stock form they're gutless oil leakers with just as many 4mpg versions running around as there are 7mpg. But like anything else they can be made to run but will never stop leaking.

The goal for our cabover is 1000hp single turbo just for chits. Testing custom deckplate and testing one of our turbos on it at 1000hp. What could go wrong right? LOL
