NX Duramax Dragster Build Thread.

what is the advantage of taking a two speed tranny and adding another gear over just using a 3 speed tranny? why not just use a 3 speed with a taller gear in the axle?

My 2 cents is that the powerglide is the strongest trans available today for the most part. It with a GV overdrive makes a simple package. Easier to get ratios for 9" rear in the 3's than in the 2.4 to 2.7 with a direct drive and 3 speed turbo.

Either works, just 2 ways of getting there.

Is it going to be ready by March 12th? In time for the NHRDA Desert Diesel Nationals in Wittmann, AZ just outside of Phoenix?

Unfortunatly, we wont be able to get the car together in time for that event. The first official event will be the Texas Mile in March. Once we are done with the mile, we will convert the car to 1/4 mile mode.

Here's the planned schedule:

March 25-27-Texas Mile, Goliad TX
April 2-NHRDA Texas Diesel Nationals, Ennis Texas
April 16-18-IHRA Top Dragster, Pine Valley Raceway Park*
May 7-NHRDA Elite Diesel Nationals, Pueblo CO
May 28-30-IHRA Top Dragster, State Capitol Dragway*
June 4-NADM Buckeye Nationals, Hebron OH
July 16-NADM East Coast Nationals, Numidia PA
Sept 3-NADM Weekend on the Edge, Salt Lake City UT
September 10-12-IHRA Top Dragster, Dallas Raceway*
Oct 1-NADM Ohio Nationals, Hebron OH
Oct 8-ODRA/NADM Texas Roundup, Dallas TX
Dec 9/10-NADM PRI Drags. Orlando FL

We made a little progress on the NX Dragster this weekend. We took the body and wing tree off in preparation for a minor chassis mod and to ease the assembly / wiring process. The NX production department needed more room in the shop so the next part of the build process will take place at Mike Woods’s toy shop. It would have been a pain to move our Freightliner and stacker trailer for the short one mile trek to Mikes toy shop, so we just loaded the dragster chassis onto Mikes open car trailer. (Cue the redneck jokes)

Once the NX Dragster was at Mike toy shop, the borrowed engine out of Mike Wood’s DuraMax GT Mustang was slipped into the dragster chassis. This engine should make the dragster run pretty well but is only temporary. We have a higher horsepower, lighter weigh Duramax in the works.:woohoo: One of the cool components slated for the new engine is a Chuck Nuytten aluminum block.

Thanks for looking!!! We will report back as more progress is made.

Awesome!!! Can't wait to see it on the strip! But you guys really need to consider coming out for TS and running at Beech Bend Dragway... It is a good track and a great event!!!

damn!!! those CN blocks are pretty sexy looking.

any wild plans for the rotoating assembly? seems kinda silly to not go silly after going to a billet block.

Wow....Looks good guys, now something more than talk is going to happen with this project. Good to see & it will be a badley needed addition to the diesel drag racing world. Im pulling for ya guys.

Who's gonna be the wheel man? Mike has been 7.0 back in his dragster days hasn't he?

It's actually a Wheel Woman. We have signed Emily Herod, a young female driver, to pilot the dragster. Not only is Emily a class act, she is also a 2010 world champion.

Who is Emily Herod?
She started racing when she was nine years old. Her father, Les Herod and his entire side of the family have always raced so Emily felt destined to be a racer. After a long wait, Les decided it was time put her behind the wheel of a Jr. Dragster. She had always had a strong passion for competition, and was motivated most by winning. Although Emily states “I wouldn't have been able to do or accomplish any of the things I have done without God”. Emily especially loves the rush she gets when she starts the car and heads for the burnout box!
Emily’s favorite part about being at a race is having a young girl or boy walk to her car to take a close up look and ask if they can sit in it. She never hesitates; she just automatically says: Of course you can! To see the smile on a little kids face is priceless. What really drives her to race is all of the fun she has when she is at the race track, just smelling the fuel, seeing the tire smoke from the burnouts and the super friendly people that she associates with. One of Emily’s favorite things is waking up on a Saturday morning at the race track hearing the sound of race cars warming up their engines around the pits.
Emily’s future plans will always involve racing at the highest level possible, she loves racing, Being family oriented she is able to spend so much time with her family at the events she just can’t see herself in any other sport except drag racing. One of the high lights of her racing career was being accepted into the Lyn St. James Women in the Winner’s Circle Academy, unfortunately due to prior commitments she was not able to accept this opportunity. However the opportunity to drive the NX DuraMax Dragster will be Emily’s main focus for the future and she intends to take Project NXD to a World Championship as well!
