Hardcore 6.4 Parts

A stock cummins 12v making a million miles is possibe yes. The bottom end or even the long block at stock power levels yes. Now just adding fuel and changing fluids and filters a complete motor with every component making a million miles I'd call a fluke. From what I have gathered the 12v blows head gaskets at the same hp levels a 6.0 does. Not saying the 6.0 is any better just point out what I see.

Tuning has a lot to do with blowing HG's...especially on a 12v. Lots of timing = Blown HG Also, a 3' long inline head is GOING to have more HG problems that a V8 that is half the length...PERIOD!

Since a 6.0L has dynamic timing, it should not have a problem with HG's until the levels that a CR, and Duramax does...IMHO.

Man is the guy on here still making the " hardcore 6.4 parts " or did this become a big 3 diesel war? LOL

I AM BUSY BUILDING UP A 2010 6.4 WHILE EVERYONE IS DEBATING. WHATS BEST.
TWEEKING HIGH PRESSURE PUMP, STUDS DONE, HEADS PORTED, SPRINGS,RETAINERS,KEEPERS CHANGED. iNLET PIPE REPLACED, UP PIPES MODIFIED AND TIG WELDED WITH CROSSOVER AND 44MM WASTE GATE ADDED.PUSHRODS REPLACED, SPARTAN TUNER IN , TRANS WORK NEXT. DOING BILLET SHAFTS THREE DISK CONVERTER...
GOING TO MAKE BILLET INLET ELBOW WITH PHENOLIC SPACER TO KEEP HEAT OUT, JUST NEED TO FINISH PORT SHAPE R AND D.
TURBO WORK IS BEING THOUGHT ABOUT ALONG WITH WHO TO DO IT? TURBONETICS, PRESION TURBO...
BUT YES I AM STILL HERE, THANKS FOR ASKING.
P.S. ALL BRANDS ARE OK WITH ME AS LONG AS THEY ARE DONE WELL.
IM ONE OF THESE GUYS WHO FEEL THAT YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH HP.

A 3' long head will not have the problems of a V8 that only has 10 head studs per bank. That is the problem with these International engines, the lack of head studs. The 6.4 is improved due to using 16mm. studs over the 14mm the 6.0 used.

Sounds like a cool project keep us posted on build up. 1st i know of doing head work on a 6.4 Might look into Erics tuning at innovative. He is putting out bigger numbers than Spartan now. I am sure you are aware of that though. Why not go with Elite tow twins? Kit is made for this truck now. Unless you are wanting to do a one off.

That is a different cause for the same issue:D I didn't mention it because I didn't know how many Head bolts a 6.0L had.

That makes it:
6.0L = 10 per head, 20 total
Cummins = 26 Total (I think, I'm drawing a blank here:D)
Duramax = 22 per head, 44 total (Again, I think)

Yep...looks logical which engines should have more head gasket issues...IMHO, the only engines I don't see head gasket problems with in the AG world is the ones who have 6 bolts per cylinder...5 is OK, but with time you'll still blow a gasket!

Bigrpowr I believe has ported heads, as well as Elites tow twins and sticks. In fact, I think he already has done everything that this guy wants to do?

PROBABLY GOING TO DO ONE OFF STUFF, THAN PRODUCE A KIT FOR IT.
THATS WHAT I AM THINKING WITH MOST OF THIS STUFF.
MOST EGR FULL DELETE KITS LEAVE A LITTLE TO BE DESIRED.
I AM STRIVING FOR THE BEST ENGINEERING OR I MIGHT AS WELL BE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.

I HAVE ALSO KNOWN MANY SO CALLED PORTERS WRECK HEADS BY NOT UNDERSTANDING HOW HEADS REALLY WORK.THEY THROW AROUND HEAD PORTING TERMINOLOGY SUCH AS SHORT SIDE RADIOUS AND WATERFALL EFFECT BUT HAVENT A CLUE.
I DISCUSSED HEAD PORTING RECIENTLY WITH A SO CALLED GOOD DIESEL MODIFICATION COMPANY, SELLING PORTED HEADS. I WILL NOT MENTION NAMES. THEY COULD NOT TELL ME WHAT A STOCK 6.4 HEAD FLOWS AT ANY LIFT NUMBERS INTAKE OR EXHAUST. THEY DIDNT EVEN KNOW AFTER PORTED NUMBERS. NOT TO MENTION HOW MANY INCHES OF VACUUM.
SO HOW DOES ANYONE MAKE AN INTELLIGENT DECISION ON WEATHER TO PURCHASE THIS WORK OR NOT.
JUST FOOD FOR THOUGHT.
I KNOW WHAT MY NUMBERS CAME IN AT. IN ALL RESPECTS PORT VELOCITY TOP AND BOTTOM OF PORTS. INTAKE AND EXHAUST FLOW NUMBERS AT ALL LIFT NUMBERS AND INCHES OF VACUUM.
THE ONLY PROBLEM IS DUREMAX HEADS HAVE MORE VOLUME AND MATERIAL TO WORK WITH. THIS IS WERE I AM GOING WITH A BILLET HEAD.FOR EVERY ONE CFM OF HEAD FLOW INCREASE IS WORTH 2.4 TO 2.6 HP ON A NORMALLY ASPERATED ENGINE. ITS HIGHER ON A TURBO OR BLOWER MOTOR. PRO STOCKS ARE ABOUT 2.8 THOUGH.
WHAT I AM SAYING IS YOU CAN HAVE THE BIGGEST BADDEST SHORT BLOCK AND IF THE HEADS DONT FLOW YOUR NOT GOING TO MAKE THE POWER YOU WANT. AND YES TURBOS HELP THIS OUT.
THIS IS WHY I THOUGHT BETTER HEADS WOULD BE NICE.
WHAT DO YOU THINK GUYS AM I NUTS LIKE I THINK I AM.

Dude,

I refuse to even read this.. Turn caplocks off! :bang

Yeah, quit freaking yelling.

Better tell the 2.8 pullers they can't make power on those 12v heads...

I love the way you are talking about ported 6.4 heads like everyone should know flow numbers... How many ported 6.4 heads are there out there?

So who has flowed a 6.4L head to help this guy out?? No one? Really?

Ho many 6.4L owners are there on here? 20? 30? I'm asking because I don't know. However many there are, I applaud you for being the guinea pigs, and trying new things, but have you found the limit of the stock heads yet? I thought the fuel system was the first hurdle?

Chris

I think there getting plenty of fuel. The turbo's might be holding them back some, but now a single turbo has successfully been used, we might start seeing some serious horsepower put to the ground!

I would bet there have been a dozen or so trucks that have had head work done...

I was gonna say the same. The trucks will take the 310 spartan tune with 2 stages of nitrous and stock twins. Good amount of fuel to support that much air. All though after a turbo upgrade and big nitrous the fuel system should be looked into next. Airdog then maybe pump work?????

There are heads out there that have been ported.
I just feel if a co is selling this service they should be remotely familure with these things.
Who do you guys feel is most knowledgable about diesel turbo mods who do quality work.
Hey look cap locks off.
Thanks guys [the ginny pig] sp?

i say do a set of heads and provide a before and after flowsheet. no lying in that.

Heads i feel would be great. It would remove duramax's advantage instantly.
Flow numbers before and after would be standard.
Keep in mind these numbers can be skewed by a happy flow bench or dyno.
Also inches of vac the flow bench was set at during the test and the amount of lift.
But one cfm of flow is worth 2.4 to 2.6 hp in a normally aspirated engine. boosted flow numbers would be even better.
I just have no idea how many guys would want a set of billet killer heads.
and what most people are willing to spend?
Thanks
