One thing led to another. Build thread.

Damn you guys and your d10's. Haha. Making me rethink my whole plan.

Tonneau cover - My thoughts were to use two very thin pieces of aluminum with some of this sandwiched in between.

Did you figure how much it would cost to do it? Might be back in carbon fiber range

Nope. I'm light years away from that point in my build, I was hoping you would do it. ;)

What about the Bogart Fly Stars? I'd get whatever is lightest. I think the lightest of the Bogarts or the most expensive Welds are about 5lb lighter per wheel than other lightweight racing wheels. From what you've done already with weight savings, it would be a shame to add 20lb more rotating weight based upon looks. Depending on tire size, that can be another 5-10lb per corner also. If you're not careful, you could add 50-70lb to your ideal lightest possible configuration without even thinking about it.

I wouldn't have given you a heavy wheel as a choice. These wheels are all between 13-15 lbs. About as light as they get when you upgrade to the thicker center in a 15x12. Without the thicker center they'd be about 1lb lighter, but I'm not really worried about that. I could save another pound going to a 10 wide, but I like the way the tire fits the 12" wheel. The weight of the tire will make more of a difference than anything. That is the next place to start doing some homework.

Yeah, the tire choice will be interesting....what's the leading contender??

Cory thinks I'm going to need a 31, and I think I could get away with a 29.5. We haven't come to a conclusion yet but 31x10.5W-15 or 29.5x10.5W-15. If we go with a hoosier it won't be a "w". Measurements for tire clearance were taken with a 31" tire in mind as the biggest we'd possibly run.

I'd say no on radials. If you do go for a shorter tire, will the truck be lower too, so it doesn't look stupid? I'm assuming yes ;)

The truck will be as low as possible. Front axle is the limiting factor.

Why no on radials?

You mean front framerails? I just said no on radials because slicks will give you the best outcome on almost any track. Radials will just go up in smoke if the track is poor, but slicks you can still get a good pass even if the track is junk.

Axle / framerails / oil pan, not a lot of room to go lower. It'll be interesting to see how ms. Misery does on radials. They'd be quicker if you can make them work.

What are most people running for tire size?

I am planning on getting some different wheels and getting some radials when the cash comes around, but still don't know much about them or what I really need.. Hate to derail, just saw an opportunity and jumped.

I'd say most guys are running a 28-32" tire on a 10-12" wheel. It seems like 30-14-16 mh is a common tire.
