I have data!
Two different hills east of Billings on 90. Both about 5.5% grade.
Temp 75 f
Speed 47 mph
75k gross with a load that catches wind
10th gear at 1650
Elevation was 3500 and 4500, 2nd one was a bit cooler
Egt 920 f max, wasn't rising either
Oil temp in the sump hit 190
Coolant temp crept up to 195-200
Fuel rate is approx 28 gph. I will update this later after some math
I'd like to think those egts are acceptable, what do you guys say?
I'm not sure if the coolant rising like that is ok. I could see my rad needing to be changed.
Oh and this little adventure I had in winter when it was -30. Fuel rate would've been over 30, boost around 40, 65mph straight up an 8% grade at 50k gross
Flying up supertest at 50k gross - YouTube
Tis mulch season..
I'm not a skeptic. Don't much care, everyone needs to do their own thing, but 50k gross??? Geesh
I hated to see my 389 go but I'm really liking this one. Thought y'all might like to see the new ride. That's a PC490 I'm hauling grossing around 163k.
How are you legal on the truck with that tiny 3rd axle?
It's good for 20,000. South Carolina gives you 60,000 on a tridem, 80,000 on a quad or essentially 20,000 per axle. I run South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and every once in a blue moon Florida. I have never had any problems. Most of our over the road guys have that same pusher axle and never had any issues.
Not bad if you are color blind. LOL
