Truckers, lets see your rigs!

We’ll needles to say, it has a trash file in it. We either got had years ago or it got reflashed some time when people were instructed not to.

Cat will usually "update" it if it comes through the doors. This 2ws hasn't been in a yellow shop in at least 10 years and I think that's why it runs as good as it does.

Oh and since this is a pic thread....
Might have a 18L 3406b with giant pump coming to a highway near you.....oh and of course another wasteful set of compound turbos. I can neither confirm or deny this...

just a peek fresh out of the oven with some Matterhorn Cat white powdercoat. Can’t wait to find out what the BSFC’s are on this one. Might even have to put more vents in the fuel tanks so they don’t get sucked in. Lmao

How about my new 200# each bar stools. Made from 1/2” plate, OshKosh MRAP coil springs and some new shiny brake drums. Been keeping the powder coater busy lately.

It’s only been to cat a couple times in the past several years and they were always instructed NOT to even touch it with a computer.
I personally have never liked the guy he uses for tuning. The guy I had look at it yesterday like to fell over when we plugged it in. He had some tunes he wanted to try but boss man said to only change the trim codes and see what happens.
He ran the overhead and said the intakes were all really loose and the exhaust were all tight. He said the trim codes alone smoothed out the idle we both didn’t care for.
If this doesn’t help the fuel mileage, I was told we we will throw a tune in it.

I tried explaining to him the tune was chit. I personally think the guy who tuned it, put that file in there but I have no proof. I mean it’s a low nox file... who does these things. However what I said went about as far I can throw the truck...

Every 6nz is gonna be low nox. If your just chasin fuel mileage, drop back to 475 file, with the right fls fts it would most likely pick up. But most assured be even worse to drive

Without the CAT engineering software there isn't a whole heck of a lot you can modify. Many of the "custom tunes" out there are factory files from various applications. Some do modify them but it is pretty rare. I personally prefer it this way. Most of the guys that buy a laptop from us have no business running a calculator let alone modifying ECMs.

I understand it will be low nox but a truck that’s been “tuned” should not be correct?
We aren’t “just” chasing fuel mileage. Yes we need it to do better than the 4.7-5.0 it’s getting, but we also want it to run well.

The trim codes that were in it I’m not familiar with...
it had 5324’s in it.
My point is, for a truck that he paid like 600 bucks for it to be “tuned”, it’s not what I consider correct.

The couple I've seen are usually based on early 2ws files, or 7cz.

The problem doesn’t lie in finding the files, it’s making sure the ecm will accept the early factory files for the 6nz. There are pre low nox files.

Is that an A2 or A3 ECM?

I guess what I meant was no factory 6NZ would be. I've seen modified files and early e-model ones, but no factory 6nz specific ones. In my collection anyhow

my MBN was overhauled as a 6NZ, but it had a 2WS computer put on it with a pre-lowNoX file in it. the 6999 codes and the borg S478 really made that truck run well. probably the only thing i'd have changed during the rebuild process is i would have added the 800 marine cam.

Anyone that could answer it...which series of ADEM do you have?

Well the reason I asked is because, you’re asking questions out of my range of knowledge.

There are ones for each HP rating that date Nov99 for both the 6nz and 7cz engines.

But the pre-low NoX files won’t go in a new ADEM3 ecm only an older original one. And if he paid $600 he didn’t get a custom file. Which is priced about right for a stock file especially if it was flashed out of its class. There are factory files that are better than others but the one that’s in his isn’t one of them.
