Truckers, lets see your rigs!

Flat bed and dry van yet again...
I’m not sure what’s going on but I see a lot of guys going to reefer work and have heard the rates skyrocketed. No proof though

I forsee pet food ingredients going strictly toted, and going to a dryvan.

So what changes have you made?

To add to SmokinCAT's previous comment change cost's money and there is only so much of it to go around. Spending a ton of money (profit) to change a facility around doesn't make financial sense to most companies. Again it's really easy for you to armchair quarterback since you don't have to spend a dime of your money to do it.

Change isnt always about facility.

You guys ever heard the saying about looking out for yourself when arguing with an idiot? Something about them dragging you down to their level and beating you with experience?

I believe we found our idiot...

He'll never be wrong...just like he believes his S60 is the best thing ever because of his BSFC...he'll never be wrong because he is a trucking GOD.

I'm not ignoring the future of crap...We're trying to figure out how to make it fit our lives, or a way around it...basically the exact opposite of ignoring something....however, I am not embracing it by your definition.

We're in agriculture...if you ignore the future, you will be out of business. Period.

I don't get how you can say ignore the future or embrace it while touting the advantages of a engine introduced in 1989...don't you know even Detroit has moved on now?? Embrace the new boat anchors from Diamler-Benz....

Chris

I'm disgusted with all of them, just asking why you feel to embrace it?
I wasn't for it at first but I've been on it for 18 months now and realize the benefits. Many of the old schoolers at the same company have the same story. The same ones that threatened to retire when these guys did the early adoption now say they wouldnt go back.

Theres many benefits to the carrier and driver.

I was on it first Carrier I worked for.. went from paper to ELD in 2010.. lost ~30% of my paycheck running dedicated retail freight

No... I do not like being rushed into doing my work I their allotted time... I wanna run how I wanna run, and it’s not even about running more than the allotted 11hr drive time.
I’m also not ok with having a plucking tracking collar on. At all. The idea alone just pisses me off so bad I can’t see straight.

Maybe im spoiled with the freight I haul? Ive done 3850 miles in 6 days legally and a reset on the 7th at home. In theory thats 15,400 miles in 4 weeks perfectly legal. But as we learn today (still loading) doesnt always work that way. Been at it for 2 months and this is the first delay ive had.

You flat bed guys don’t get it... they can only load and unload product so fast at these feed mills/plants. What did you want them to do? Rebuild every pet food and animal food plant?

I'm assuming your payed by the mile or percentage? I was payed by the hour when I did hopper. I'd sit hours and hours. Quite often they could unload fast, the places just didn't care about speedyness(Cargil is the worst). But with me hourly, it actually kept us from goin certain places because the company got tired of payin me to sit..... I don't envy you

How so? The trucking industry has more freight than it knows what to do with and not enough drivers to move it. And the rail industry isn't to far behind in that respect.

We have a hard time finding drivers that are able to pass a D.O.T physical and drug test.

I think that's more a problem of the average 41k a year pay, but good point

Can you guys imagine how big of a trucker headset Allan05oh has? And I can almost guarantee he doesn’t take it off when he gets out of the truck.
