Well found some bad news on dads isx. Injector cam bearing was the cause for low oil pressure. So looks like it will be getting an inframe.
It will be deleted at the same time. Should the factory turbo be left or is there a better suited turbo? Do the vgt operate the same afterwards?
It just depends how much you use your jakes and what model it is. CM870, 871, or 2250/2350?
My deal with hardwood is the changes in temp. Mine drew moisture something horrible. It’s not got anything to do with keeping clean on my end, I mean I have a painted aluminum floor now so that’s even worse. This truck used to have hardwood, we now have aluminum, and the 359 used to have hardwood and we went back with carpet.

Injector cam rules out 22/2350.
From what I know (very little), people seem to like them better with the vgt gone but that’s just a little hear say.

I wanna say 871 but I can call kw with last 6 an they should tell me. The truck is at a mechanic who does diesel spec tuning I believe.
Some guy also gave dad what looks to be the vgt control valve with a bolt threaded into it to change starting of veins?
The jakes are weak dad said and we both like to use them.
If anyone is familiar with diesel spec maybe a suggested hp tune with the delete or let it remain stock power just deleted? His acert is pdi tuned 650/2150 I think and he likes it but he drives it.
That's an actuator for an 870. That someone has modified for som e reason. Can you tell a difference from stage 2 and 3 on the jake? I'm almost willing to bet it has some kind of tune and the vgt is inoperable now. I've yet to see any good diesel spec isx tuning, PDI not any better. You can get good power out of one with the stock turbo, and keep the third jake stage. You'll lose that going to a standard turbo. But, better fixed vane turbo will support more power. Sounds like you got some other issues goin on though. Where are you located?
If rocker shafts are wore, repace em with a jake tuneup kit. A coupe new solenoids are usually a good idea. I'd definitely say something s wrong. Cummins with the vgt jake is really good so long as its in workin order. I'd pull the exhaust housing off the turbo to check the condition. if its all good I'd probly just do egr delete for the health of the engine. But not diesel spec. Pm at some point. I know a few guys north of the border that can get you squared away if you wanna go that routeThe motor an tune is stock to my knowledge. The actuator is from a guy who had it on his isx and gave it to my dad to install on his once it’s deleted. His instructions were “use the bolt to adjust once it’s installed” lol Not sure where the other guy that idea. I can’t answer for a difference in stage 2 or 3 of the jakes I’ll ask the old man. The truck is getting torn down at the moment for the inframe.
So would weak jakes be an indicator of the vgt not operating properly? I imagine there is a test for this? I don’t think he’s to worried about more power as he likes the power the truck has now. But says the jakes were almost nonexistent but he is used to his acert which has great jakes.

Leave the factory turbo on the 870. They aren't a very expensive unit to justify removing it and losing jake power. There are a few different sized units on those. They can all support decent power.
A couple local shops here use diesel spec and people seem to like it but for the money there are certainly better options. That being said, at least their tuning is fairly safe. Cannot say that for some of the other options out there.
