Questions.... is the new x15 anything different than its previous brethren?

We're getting them slowly at work, after treatment is different. No 7th injector it's using in cylinder dosing. Other then that not a huge difference from the 2350 ISX. Compressor housing is even smaller on the X15.

Cat builds a good mechanically sound engine with the 3406 base structure, I would have liked to see them actually update the fuel system once in the life of the electronic version of the engine, bosch based HPCR would have been nice to see like was used on the Navistar version of the C15.

Other changes that date back to the inception of the 3406 that could have been carried over from the 1693 were things like the 2 3/8" exhasut manifold studs per cylinder when the 1693 use 3 1/2" studs per cylinder, and then going away from the dual overhead cam of that engine when it was way ahead of its time.

The B/C model fuel pump is ridiculously over built, but from a performance and repair standpoint it is awful unless you have deep pockets, a pump cam for example is more money than an engine cam and it isnt over a foot and a half long, a bosch setup like mack used would have been much easier to service and less money in the long run.

It would have been neat to see Cat put a common rail fuel system on the 3406 engine. Similar to the way Cummins progressed the 5.9.

Like 19.5:1 compression ratio with the same Chinese parts so I’m not excited. BUT at least it’s not a rear gear euro pile so it’s got that going for it.

He's that Flex Air do with the big weight? Thought it was only good for 38k?

It’s one of the things I didn’t want on this truck but when you buy used....I have this 2016 cutoff with low air I stole the disk brakes off of I kept in case the AG380 didn’t work. So far it’s fine, I put 1” spacers under the bags which kept the fenders off the tires and raised the air governor to 145psi, put a separate air tank just for the suspension with check valves on each end and it’s good now. It will hold 60k like a champ. The air bags on these actually has higher load capacity than the low air but the spring in the front must put more weight on it because the pressure is higher at the same load. Paccar uses the same heavy axles on the flex as the low air and 8 bag. I know others like IH will use the lighter housings with the lighter suspension.

No problems during those about 5 years they have been on our market. They let you test them before they were given to us. Some manufacturers do fix their problems, they are not Caterpillar.

“No problems”. Of course not, I bet nothing European has ever failed in your eyes.

Richie Brothers auction is at the end of February in Orlando. Watch and get an education on what your euro trash sells for. You can get Volvo’s and MAN Maxxforce powered trucks for less than a lawnmower. If they’re so good why are they so cheap?

I always find it comical when I come across an AG100 with 46K axles.

So a friend sent me these pics which I’m sure are old and have been all over Al Gore’s internet for a while. But the part I find hard to believe is why a truck with skirts, trailer tail and of course an amazing DD13 with super singles even stopped at the fuel island. With all those aero gadgets don’t those trucks make their own fuel? That’s the part I don’t believe.

Must have been empty if it had enough nuts to drag that in there.

I mean, I know fleet drivers can be complete morons, but how do you not notice that?

They noticed, they just don’t care.

I agree to each his own but after you buy the truck and completely gut it to fix stuff, is it worth the price difference?

Now don’t forget I’ve done it but I saved $20,000 on just the truck. If I could have bought exactly what I wanted for $10k more and had to do no work I probably wouldn’t have went to all this. I didn’t have to touch hardly anything in the cab. You start buying interior parts and you can burn money quick. I have one panel on the headliner that’s cracked, replacement is $600.

And no that is not my gay arse LoneStar beside it. Friends shop and truck was customers. That’s why mine is under plastic to keep the gay off of it.

While I agree when it comes to big trucks alot less so for MD trucks... Even sport chassis versions, if you wanna pay that markup, aren't setup like what I did... I'm still under 40k.

I swing by stoops and talked to Gary guy that did my m2-106 quote in 2015 , still scoofs at what I'm doing and how I spec'd out.. definitely at HP requirements... and most likely won't build one even a SD 108 version.. Pete/KW won't entertain the idea.. even if I had cash on hand.

Fwiw I'm currently running 75-80 across Oklahoma turnpike.. 99% of MD trucks out there don't have the HP and or legs to do this.

It seams I have a habit of think outside the Normal box majority of everyone else thinks in.

I will basically be building the same truck, but just on a different cab...we'll be doing the same things with our truck, only heavier. We won't need the legs, but I want them...that way when we're running light, we can gear up.

I understand why OEM's won't built this way, most drivers wouldn't have any idea how to operate them setup that way.

We're still not set on a true MD (T300/370, 330/335)...might find a T800 or something like that and knock an axle out. Going to need a CDL anyway, and the big engine won't hurt. We don't care about fuel mileage.

That's what he is talking about. It's a 3406 with Bosch engine controls instead of delphi, and after treatment developed by cummins.
We dynoed one rated at 500hp, it put down 403hp.

Yea but didn't you want hydraulic brakes? I wouldn't have spec'd that either as a dealer unless you paid 100% up front. If your ordering something that no one else wants there's a reason they won't spec it. When I ordered a new W9 in 2005 you could still order a K100 BUT you had to order 2 minimum and you had to pay cash, no financing available. The reason is they would never get rid of it.

If you went to KW of Dayton I wouldn't have trusted them to order a pizza. If it's not a red or white fleet spec truck they don't know what to do. When I was considering getting a glider they offered to spec one with a new engine..........Clueless.

I'm dealing with the same thing with trailers. One dealer says it's not possible and was done talking, another said "shouldn't be a problem" and actually submitted the drawings to the engineer. :bang

Should have been single turbo for maximum power and fuel efficiency. Lmao

It had been mentioned here before that Oester had built a C15 with a bosh QSK fuel system. But I was envisioning something more along the lines similar to what J has pictured. But I was thinking more along the lines of a B/C design.

Any more details J? What does it run for injectors? Road truck?

Glad I can R&D for you too lol

Yeah would have liked air disc... These hyd disc are more than up to the current task at hand...if I bought new definetly be a requirement.

I haven't even asked if anyone would make me a 10/25/5 step deck with 3-12k or two 15k axles
