Elites VGT-HO

so are u happy with VGT-HO? could u tow with it or is compounds the way to go

Loud pipes save lives. haha. Thats for snowmobiling but it works for here as well.
I love the turbo so far. I dont see any problems with it for towing. I dont have a tow tune nor will I get one because I dont really tow anything big. The most I tow is a 4 place enclosed sled trailer but winters ending here so no more towing for me. I think a good tow tune and some 190s with this turbo would be good but who knows until thats tested. Maybe Ill get on the phone with Tadd and have him send me a tow tune and tow with it once I get a trans built. Ryan
 
the turbo as far as I know for the 04 and 05 are the same, its the pedestal thats different..I THINK

the 03 are different turbo's

not sure if this has already been answered i havent finished reading this thread, but they are not the same exactly.. they are the same SIZE though..

the 03 turbine is 3mm larger than the 04+ turbines and has 10 blades
the 04 turbine is smaler than 03 and has 13 blades
the 05 turbine same size as 04 but it has 15 blades.

that is the reason the 03's sound different, less blades and larger wheel..
i put an 03 turbine on just because i wanted the lower egt's, the nice whistle was just an added bonus... i should be non vgt here in another week though.

yeah was kinda hard to see exactly what was going on but it looked good. i sure like those 05+ dash boards though !!
what happened in the middle of that first run where all the gauges stopped, did you have to restart the truck for something ??

The absolute best combo for the street is the VGT-SS and Elites stage 2's. I had this combo for a while and it was awsome. It will make aroud 525-550 hp to the wheels and spools like stock.

hey first what size were those S2 sticks ? what size VGTSS did you use was it the 65mm compressor ? 03 turbine ? and that 525 is w/out nos ??

also , now that you have the S3's what size roughly and are you still using the same VGTSS or did you go bigger ??

i'm expecting another VGTSS w/the 03 turbine because i'm hoping it will help with my egt's since they are kinda hard to keep down, i don't really expect much more HP from the 03 even though it should flow more, because i think i'm maxxed out in the fuel dept, my new 200's aren't in yet but i'll probably just do them when i go with the nonvgt turbo like white23dually
 
Not to change topic, but I just made a round trip FL - PA towing 8,000 lbs. on the return trip with Spartans biggest vgt, supposed to be bigger than the ss. It kicked ass. Saw 1300 egt at 80 mph in WVA(if you have been through there you know what I mean)and it sounds friggin awesome. I think once I get it live tuned and get my injectors fixed up(190's from cass that haven't worked quite right since they were installed)it will be sweet. Oh yeah need an intercooler too.I am gonna try to get some vids of the turbo up since it is comparable to the HO so yall know that it is a viable option.

I need a little clarification. In another thread you say you clean up your 190's. In this thread you say the injectors haven't been right since installation. How about a little more on the surging issue also.
 
what size compressor VIS.?? i've run spartans 65mm and i never could get the surge to go away completely. although i must mention it only surges when the converter is locked and the rpms are under 2200, once i get over 75-80 mph i can roll into it w/no surge...

hoping the nonvgt 66mm going on monday won't have the same issues...

i'm wondering if going up from my 175's to 200's will help too..
i can tell you that the SDT40 (vgtss style) from spartan only cleans up my sticks at full boost and hi rpm w/max engine flow... around town they don't clean up, but in top gear over 110mph they will be clean, and they will clean up on the dyno
 
The injectors work good, it is my ficm that is troublesome and the tuners I use have had more trouble than the norm with my ficm flash/code? On the milder tunes it cleans them up as much as realistically possible without spray. I do get some surge when towing, but I feel that upgrading that many systems would more or less require live tuning to get it correct.

Sin- So basically the turbo surged everywhere you went? 2200 is pretty high. No surge with the HO. Where are you located? Maybe elevation has to do with it. Ryan

the turbo surged whenever the t/c was locked and the rpms were low.. basically it had to be up "in the powerband" and under boost already to not surge... it's like when you try to 'lug' too high a gear, that's when it would surge.. and yeah, i'd have to be going about 80 or better if i wanted to not surge or i would have to unlock the converter...

yeah it happens at all elevations... closer to sea level it was actually a bit worse, but peak boost was higher by about 3psi...
my track is at 2300'.. im in vegas, peak boost a tad lower, and surging is still readily available :)

no matter, nonvgt turbo showed up today, it's a beauty, and it weighs 10lbs less than my vgt unit.. hopefully surging goes away i'm putting it on in the morning.
 
Started out with a vgt-ss when truck went in for surgery. It was defective from the get go, but it was not an Elite product, but pretty much a clone, and I was handed my stocker which was just about shot, and it did not make it. At 10p.m. I called everywhere and Spatan could have me the turbo next day. I respected someone staying up on a Sunday night to build me a turbo in an emergency and felt that they deserved my bussiness, as the vendor who sold/installed the ss did not feel comfortable with replacing the ss as their supplier had changed hands and could not vouch for the quality of the replacement. I have posted about some issues with my mods, dropping or missing while coasting, idle hanging up untill completely stops, and rough idle(after about 1K after programming it idles). So I guess that 190s just operate like this, but I would of went another route had I known. Like I said There seems to be trouble with VXCF4HB and gonna try to get the FICM reprogrammed and pray that it helps.I have not had any surge except when towing, and it was heavy, and Matt had offered to live tune it at no cost on a trip down to my neck of the woods, but I was not available during the time frame. I pay DJ to tune my truck so hopefully he will get the surge tuned out of it and get it to idle in a realistic amount of time. If not Matt is real cool about stuff and I will just hook up with him(he is able to tune the ficm), DJ seems to think there is a fuel table missing from the SCT software for my code, as their canned tunes work o.k. with my strategy. As far as how it runs? Good God if I'm on it watch out, it rips and all that it has is a street tune. Unbelievable whistle. Not a whole lot of boost though, can regularly hit 32 and I have not been anywhere to max it out, but if anyone is curious i will find somewhere to check it. One last thing, the tech that installed the Spartan turbo swore it felt like it had a 100hp tune in it stock. Gotta get a few more mods and we can all play with it and see what it'll do.
 
Do you have fuel systems to back up your injectors? If not you can score those up from lack of fuel. Not sure on the idling thing but my 200s idle down pretty cool. Its not a smooth idle down, it rumble down. DJ should get you running good. I used to have him tune my truck and it ran sweet. Hes not a big fan of the boost though. Im running around 47 pounds with my current setup. Theres a video of it in cab in the video section. thing screams. Good luck with the surge!

ryan got the NONVGT on tonight.. surge is almost completely gone, only got it to surge once at low rpm, and that's cause i was kinda lugging it....
on the hiway the thing PPPUUULLLLLSSSS !! !! !!
boost is about 34psi and the egt's won't get into the red zone no matter how hard i'm on the throttle...
the egt's are actually HIGHER around town tho due to the fact that the thing doesn't even spool in city traffic :)
 
ryan what turbo are you running and what tunes that have you at that high a boost level ??

in all honestly i was expecting to see about 40psi with this setup, but so far 34 ..

So, I too, am interested in the size of NON-Vgt turbo Ryan is running, the A/R, etc, etc.
 
haha, he was saying he got his non vgt on not that I got it on. Im still running the HO. Sounds like a tune is in order for something down low to get it to spool. Not sure how they do that like more fuel or pull some out? If you want more boost then you can do something with the waste gate but I wouldnt mess with it since your cleaning smoke and not pinging egts.
Im running Elites VGT HO at 47 psi with Elites race file. Thats all I ever run. Heinz is the only other one with this turbo and hes around 45 but thats due to sea level crap. It needs to start getting warm over here and the snow start melting so I can get to the track! The one and only Ryan
