Elites VGT-HO

He forgot the comma. haha.
hes running a 66 I believe. Its up higher on pg. 19
You want one bad dont you. Ive been seeing you sneakin around looking for info and turbos. What went on with that 70 that was for sale?

haha, he was saying he got his non vgt on not that I got it on. Im still running the HO. Sounds like a tune is in order for something down low to get it to spool. Not sure how they do that like more fuel or pull some out? If you want more boost then you can do something with the waste gate but I wouldnt mess with it since your cleaning smoke and not pinging egts.
Im running Elites VGT HO at 47 psi with Elites race file. Thats all I ever run. Heinz is the only other one with this turbo and hes around 45 but thats due to sea level crap. It needs to start getting warm over here and the snow start melting so I can get to the track! The one and only Ryan

thanks for clearing that up.... yeah i forgot i really new tuning now since i'm running a totally different size turbo, and there is no more VGT control to factor into the tuning... for down low spooling, what you do is retard the timing, this spikes the EGT's, but it causes the combustion process to take place partly in the manifold /turbine housing so "super spool" the turbo and get it going sooner, i know there are some other tricks, so i'm pretty sure once i get it dialed in it will be okay for the street... like i say, even with a ton of lag, it's by no means a dog on the street, and will still probably beat most other trucks around, i just have to drop a gear and get up on the rev's !!! plus i have a high stall converter, so i can also just remove the "hotlock" from my file to keep the t/c unlocked and this really helps spool the big boy..

as far as wastegate, there IS NO wastegage !! if i want less boost i let off the throttle !! the turbo is sized to work at a certain efficiency at a certain boost, so really i dont need a wastegate, my boost control is done with my sticks in a manner of speaking.. when i run out of fuel, the boost stays :)

once i put the 200's in, then i'm sure i'll have to be careful the boost doesn't blow my stock i/c endtanks.... for now i think i'm safe...

it does puke now though with this turbo not sure why, since my truck has only puked like twice ever.. and that was because i had it about 2000 degrees both times !!! this new turbo and i've already puked half a dozen times, and the egt's were never in the red when it happened..
could there be some way that boost pressure above 30psi could cause a puke situation ?? my up pipe is blocked off...

Sincity:
How many Ryan's are there...:bang
You say he has the non vgt on, then the next post you ask him what size it is...didn't you talk to him at all?LOL

If it won't spool in trafic...I'm sorry...then it's not for the STREET at all.$.02
So, I too, am interested in the size of NON-Vgt turbo Ryan is running, the A/R, etc, etc.

i didnt buy THIS particular turbo for the street.. this one was for drag racing and trying to hit my goal on the dyno... i'll put the smaller .76a/r housing on if need be for daily driving, but so far i don't think it will be necessary..

remember i'm still running a tune that was designed for my vgt unit, and proper tuning will actually help dramatically with spool rpm... plus even though it spools at a higher rpm, i have a hi stall converter so it gets the exhaust energy up sooner to spool it, as long as the t/c is not locked..which currently it's always locked, so the new tune will change that too..

with that said however, even w/ no to low (under 10psi) under normal driving conditions, if someone ever "wants any" in a city driving scenario, it's just a manner of hammering the throttle, and letting the revs come up, and it's all over but the crying for them... some people might call this a bit of a delay while finding a lower gear, some people might call it serious turbo lag,....

i call it a courteous headstart :)
