6.7 dodge or 6.4 ford?

torque beast

addicted to diesel
I know I might get flamed for this but I spent all day yesterday looking at trucks. The chevy truck just does not do it for me but I do like features of the ford and features of the dodge trucks. I like the room of the mega cab but like the interior of the ford. The ford turns sharp now since they went to the coil springs like dodge but the dodge has a quicker turning ratio which I like. Now when it comes to power train I like the cummins engine but the 68re seems to be an issue when it comes to holding extra power. The 6.4 can get 530hp easily with just a programmer and I was told that the stock transmission will hold 600hp BUT it is just a 5 speed and does not have the gear selector like the chevy and dodge.

Does anyone else have any pros or cons for either of these trucks I need to know about before purchasing one?

The Fords are doing really well, better tranny and with just a few things making over 500. The Dodge auto is suspect under high power and nobody has a proven fix for it yet, with a tuner intake and exhaust it will make 400 to 500 with very good torque and mileage but like I said tranny is ??????? I had a 6.0 and hated it but the 6.4 is a completely different animal other than it is still more of an rpm motor than the cummins. I love my Dodge but I wish I had my 06 Ford King Ranch with a cummins in it if that makes any sense. I do think the cummins is more quite going down the road.

I loved my two common rail 5.9's. They were plain awesome. But given a choice, I'd take a Ford interior over Dodge any day. Ever since the '06 redesign, the Dodge interior has been cheap. Not so with the Ford. And, the new 6.4 is nice. Mileage sucks, but it's a good truck.

Not saying the Dodge is bad, just that the Ford is easier to live with.

can you tell the build date with just the vin#?

I know the tenth digit is the year but not sure if it will tell you the month

Id go with the 6.7 myself, but that is just me.

My buddy has a few things done to his and it runs awesome. Plus, i just think the cummins will last longer, and I like an inline 6. That said, it is really just personal preference.

ya, I'm going with the dodge again. just trying to figure out the build date on the dodge since anything after 03/09 cant be programmed yet.

i would go with the 6.4. my dad ha sone and we have Had NO problems in 50,000 miles. and we have a SCT custom tuned by innovative diesel ?DPF delete, S&B CAI, and it hauls for the few things done to it. and we get 20 or more mpg cruising 75 or so. we love it. such a great truck and comfortable

yes, but the thing that bothers me is the 6.4 is no longer! My cummins has been very good to me so I think I'll stay with the dodge and just hope someone comes up with an answer for the 68re

It's an 05. Looking for more room so I'm getting a Mega Cab. Just got back from Pa. road trip and was kinda cramped.

I read it on a couple of different forums and also talked to 2 guys here in houston that have them. Both guys are putting down around 530 hp running the spartan programmers and stock trans.

It says build date on the sticker inside the door, so you don't need to check based on the vin. I just picked up a 6.7 a couple weeks ago, and thus far I love it. In completely stock trim with all emissions equipment hooked up and under 1000miles on the clock, I've been able to pull over 19mpg hand calc'd. I'm very pleased with the truck so far and the exhaust brake is a sweet option to have too. You'll be happy with it I'm sure.

shoot i only bought the dodge for the CR Cummins. i wanted to go fast, now that the Ford has a motor thats what i really want. A Black or Red CC/SB 6.4 4x4 with the sport package with painted matching grille and bumpers, and all blacked out with some black 22's on it, a DPF Delete and Spartan 310 Tune. :rockwoot:

I like your style :Cheer:

for my curiousity, whats wrong with the GM truck? I test drove all 3 and chose my LMM for a stock, comfortable, nice truck. At the package level I was looking at, the LMM had waaaay more than ford. The package i am speaking of is base line XLT, chevy calls its LT1 meaning all power and cloth seats. When i bought mine....november 07....the LMM was by far the fastest too. Ive seen as high as 21mpg hand calculated with all emissions items in place.

I would flip a quarter and chooce between the 6.4 and 6.7 but both of those befor a dmax.. for some reason the chevys just dont grab my attention.. especially with the interior looks on the new ford's.
