12-Rail

Small update, we had to ditch the CR engine fan, turns out there is just not enough room to route the belt the way I wanted, there was also an interference with the idler pulley and the upper radiator hose. Found a 12 valve fan hub and fan and got it back on the road. On a more positive note this thing is a blast to drive! Quiet, nice ride, and 12 valve power!

Thats bad ass. I cant wait till i get mine done.

Thanks, Ive been beating the mechanical dinosaur drum for the last month or so because of this conversion. There are A TON of ranchers, farmers, and old timers that have talked about doing this same conversion cause their old truck is way more reliable than the new one. Other than a powering steering leak this 12 valve hasn't given my dad an ounce of trouble. Event with all the custom pieces I had to build!

how did you do your wireing to keep the esp and abs light off? On geting the gauges working did u run through the old pcm or just pin the wires from input and output from the 50 and 60 way to send contact? On the tach do u think i can weld bolts on the cover and mount my crank sensor and use the tonewheel and balncer from the common rail or is there a issue. Do ya think i can get a diagram/drawing of your belt routing.

I didn't do anything with the wiring to keep the abs off, it just stayed off. I did however cut all the injector wiring out to kind of clean it up.

I made adaptors for the sensors from the CR to the 12 valve and kept the factory plug ins.

The factory tone wheel is dished, so it makes it really difficult to mount to the front on the balancer on the 12 valve, save yourself some time and just buy the destroked unit. Call them up and tell them what your trying to do an they will be able to get you the right tone wheel.

I went back to the regular 12 valve belt routing with the 12 valve fan.

ok thanks how did you get the woperlastegate on the 351e to work properly?

We don't know if its working the way is should, just plugged it in, I was talking to some guys from thoroughbred diesel and they mentioned installing a certain ohm resistor in one of the wires to cause it to open the waste gate later. Haven't had time to mess with that. I need to get gauges in it to get some baseline measurements. My dad wants to sell the edge so I guess we are going to conventional gauges.

Just went through the other thread where you said your using a p pump 24 valve, If that's the case then your oil pressure sensor will screw right into the bigger boss in the oil gallery.

What do you want to see? I can get one this weekend cause I'm going home for fall break. I posted one earlier of a short fly by but it's on Facebook.

if you do a video id like to see the hoses and all the routing around driver side block

Crappy video, didnt really have time last weekend to get the specifics. Tach got a little crazy after I messed with it a little. Still no lockup

working on my 2003 common rail

Hey Spence, its Joe over in Dolores, awesome job on that pickup. I will have to check it out. I am currently doing the same swap in my 2003 with a six speed. Stop by with it if you are in the neighborhood.

I'm actually hauling the remaining parts from those engines I bought from you to Durango this weekend so I will stop by! Same guy that wanted to race my blue pickup for the parts finally bought what's left.

ah, just realized your from utah! cool stuff, we need more utah members!

The truck is averaging 14.5mpg on the farm now. with lockup it'd be even higher.

For future reference 97 and up power steering pumps designed for hydro boost work A LOT better!

Did you just gut the vaccum pump or how did that all work out? My 06 is about to be recieving a p pumped 24v rather soon.
