billet vs non billet cam

That is a great story man! The people that told you this, Is that the two people that worked for me until they got caught stealing from me, charging parts on my accounts, selling drugs from my shop, and lying about everything under the sun. If that is who you are talking about, consider the source. I know that you run with that bunch, and I consider you one of them. You know I gave that guy a job when nobody would after being release from jail for cattle rustling, he gave me a line about cleaning up his act. I felt sorry for him and gave him a chance. You and the kind I have seen you run with are posterchildren for not helping people! Your truck was never broken into in the 6 months or so it was at my shop.

I never sold you a 13mm pump. It was a maxed out 12mm pump with a cut cam in it. If you think you have been wronged, bring it back for a full refund. I would love to stick that pump on a project I have coming up and can't find one like it that cheap.

Feel free to come back and get a refund on the pump if it is still in working order. As far as the build I have an old running 12v that is about as good as yours was when you brought it in. feel free to let me swap it out and I will gladly give you your money back.

Taylor and all of the other Fletch jr.cheerleaders. Bring it on! I always seem to piss all of you off the most, and get under your skin. I am glad you feel the need to send Taylor (fletch jr) to lie and slander me. I think it might help your cause more to talk a little more specs and not so much straight B.S., but feel free to keep it up. I am starting to be amused by it.

For all of the people that are actually reading this thread to learn something I apologize for the sparring.

Zach Hamilton

Good to hear you got rid of guys like that. Say by the way, was that part of your posse that were in DeLeon spoutin off .......f texas diesel power? That remark has gotten under my skin.

John, that was part of the group. The other culprit was Jack Daniels, and Jim Beam. It never ceases to amaze me what grown men might say when they have whiskey in large quantities in their veins. I have seen the best natured guys turn into raging asses with just a drop of whiskey. I gave out a lot of shirts at De Leon, it is unfortunate that some assclowns got a hold of them. I should have a better screening program in place. I hope you won't hold me responsible unless you hear me talk smack to your face. BTW I let all of your coments go in the taxi after we got kicked off of Disney property. You might have thought that Greg Hogue was still beside you.

Zach Hamilton

:hehe::hehe: Oh thats right!! We Did get kicked out of a bar in Disney :hehe:.....All over me taking a leak somewhere i wassnt supposed to ......That was good times for sure.

Me and Brett were workin on the ladies the first two times you got kicked out. The third time we all got escorted off of Disney property. I don't think we are allowed back at the rewind bar. At what point did Greg Hogue disapear? I know he went to the bar because I remember you and him arguing about Nitrous balls. BTW Greg do you drink anything besides diet coke?

Great reading! Its always nice to read about peoples personal matters in a f'n can thread. Call me when class is back in session.

No Chit!!! Thanks

Has ANYONE HERE run a billet steel cam in a truck that was used for everything...normal round town, hwy, towing, racing, playing???????

How many miles did it last?? Still lasting??

What additive and oil used if any?????

Which Valve springs?? I'm thinking the HEAVY hamilton springs will be the worst thing for a Billet cam......thoughts??

oh zach, so now my truck was built by drug dealers :bang great, and yea racinduallie this was the amazing 13mm that was sealed with RTV :hehe: now theres about 5 people i can call and will say yeah that was zachs big 13mm pullin pump and he said it flowed over a 1000cc's. Wether i have proof that you said that pump was a 13mm or not is irelevant now because it has been built into one and the fly weights were fixed and the pump was gone through and put in 13mm P&B, Now i never hung out with any of your drug crew and we all know i hung out with you watching you and your band sing with more than too many beers in our system, and I NEVER hung out with people like that even though you were more the Tony Montana of the group than anyone, especially after your fiance buggin out on ya and you went into your self distruction mode beng. Now im done screwin with this thread all i wanted was a response from you for the past 2 years and i got it , from the fire from the pump and from the bad motor build, obvioulsy i live almost 3000miles away now and cant really come visit your wonderful smiling face everyday now. But I wish you good luck with your endeavors and hope your company does well, Obvioulsy you had some bad guys working for you and you misinformed me on my pump and didnt do well building my motor which is why when you told me you couldnt work on my truck anymore and you couldnt figure out how to mount my lift pump that i went to Joe Hellmann ( master fabricator :rockwoot: ) and he got everything in great running order but told me that the pump didnt fuel right or idle right and was shot and he wouldnt drive it with it on there and advised against it and said it could be dangerous, Joe was great at helping me get everything going, But i could go on forever about this truck but its no use i just needed to vent. Take it easy and good luck with your dakota you made some bad choices and i forgive ya and apologize for another cam thread turning into a molten mess of crap, adios Zach

Why has no one kicked this f***** guy off of here yet. Every thread i get on he is there causing trouble and stirring up chit

Sorry, just got back from a Captain and Coke break. Is class back in sesion yet? Opps juess not. Cant you guys just handle it face to face or at least on the phone like men and not talking **** behind a key board? Way too much *****ing and pissing going on. Start another thread in the pit chat area and shoot the **** about your issues if you cant pull yourself out from behind the keyboard. That also goes for the person that cant post anything that pertains to the topic. They know who they are. I dont think i have to put a name out there.

Yes, there are many Billet cams out there in street machines, and the ability to put advanced grinds on them is primarily the reasons.

If you going to turn big rpms with a big P pump, your need one. Even if it is a street machine, but lets face it if you have a 13 mm pump and all the parts and pieces to go with it to make the big power , really how much are you truly going to drive it. I don’t see the people I send billet cams out to , towing hotshot trailers.

Now, I want to go back and readdress the billet cam longevity issue. If you are going to use a big cam, .375 lobe lift . and you are going to use this to its full RPM potential , the seat pressure on a 24 valve needs to be in the neighborhood of 125+ lbs. this will have a lot of necessary over the nose pressure , and this is just what you need to turn Big RPM and control what is called Power valve float.

I have spent a lot of time on a spintron defining the amount of progressive pressure necessary, and the harmonics of the springs in this environment. If you are going to use a billet cam with the same parameters as a cast cam, (spring pressure, lobe acceleration, RPM band) then the longevity would be the close to the same.

but face it, if you’re going to use a billet , then you are going to do more than a small grind , if not your wasting potential .

Now if you’re going to use one of these big grinds, you’re wasting your time and money if you don’t have a cylinder head to support the total package. I have dug up a few flow sheets, and stock form a 24/CR head stalls out at about 145 cfm at .350 valve lift . The head can be made to flow to 275 cfm @ .600 lift.

There is a lot more to building a thoughtful power plant , then gatherings up a few of the sensational parts. All of the systems have to work together. Big lift in a camshaft has a lot of benefits, but you have to check when you assemble the valve train.
Most people would not know that the limit of the stock CR /24 valve head with a stock seal is .400 lift . The retainer hits the seal after that. So if you replace the seal with a aftermarket seal, you also remove the built in shim, and out the door goes installed height, unless you check it .

There are a lot of tried and proven methods to thoughtful and prudent assembly of a performance orientated engine program.

It involves trial fit. Remember the adage measure twice , cut once.

On several occasions I’ve explained trial fit procedures. If you going to build a maximum effort engine , and use a big billet cam, grind it, then trial fit , establish the proper valve clearance, then cut the pistons.
Just one of the examples .

I am very open to anyone wanting information, too open if you really want to know, but knowledge is a gift you should pass along

No street engine should run over 500 lbs of spring pressure over the nose for maximum durability.

I dont have to respond to the other things COMP has written above. Got my grain of salt and I'm fixin' to take it though.

Ok, here is what I've heard so far:

Greg - "1+1=2"
Don - "My billet is better"
Zach - "Rollers"
Greg - "2+2=4"
Don - "PIXIE DUST!"
Zach - "That's not my fault"
Fletcher - "I'm too sexy for my shirt"
Greg - "1+2=3"
Don - " MORE ZDDP DANGIT!"
Fletcher - "I'm so sexy it hurts!"
Zach - "You peed where?"
Don - "Captain! I'm giving her all she's got!"
Greg - "2+3=5"

It's easy to see who is really trying to answer the question...

LOL

Well, I still haven't figured it out as far as the other, but Don IS trying to help me.....Maybe all this chit is over my head..

Either way, I guess I'll be the test dumba$$ for the Billet in a PLAY TRUCK.....

This truck will not be driven all that much as I have a Golf TDI for my running around and a Take-Home police car that I spent MOST of my time in anyway ( Trying to support this FREAKIN Diesel Habbit of mine!!! lol ).......It will be driven for fun play street outings on occasion, driven to the races (unless I decide to sell my TDI for a tow rig and trailer), and will only tow on Very limited occassions (not heavy).....Mainly it will sit here in my drive until I need to put a smile on my face....I don't expect it to see more than 5K-10K miles yearly..if that..

I plan to run the additive and good quality oil....BTW, anyone want to suggest the best Oil (synthetic or other) for my build....

Sounds to me like Swole has about the right idea, run the cam you want, and follow the instructions that the guy who built it gives ya.

It's worked well enough for me so far...I have 2 cams in DD trucks, and a billet in the race truck (granted it hasn't made a pass yet:D))

Can someone explain how every Cam thread turns into a WWIII?

I raise just as much hell as anyone else, if not more. So I'm not looking down on anyone, I just got the deer in headlights thing going on. But 100% of the time CAM threads get crazy and I don't see how. You would think the opposite would be the case.
