Budget 6.70 drag truck build!!

With all these sniffles going around racing seems to be postponed until atleast late may which sucks. So decided to paint the truck finally. Will be a form of red. Will be a fairly cheap job. But should look way better then it has yet. Also have gotten the truck back on it’s own weight. Here’s a pic of new ride height. Shortened wheelbase to 118 to try to make weight transfer easier and alittle more rear weigh percentage!

New chromoly cage is almost complete. Should be after tonight. Will post pics later. Picked up a prebent s&w cage all chromoly off a local shop for 300$ it’s been sitting for years but is still new and wrapped up. Only issue is it was make for a around the dash style setup. However. It’s still legal for a 8.50 cert. So I made it look the best I could and really it don’t look bad. Pics will be posted later

Here’s some pics also included some pics of the outriggers the cab mounts get in the way majority of the time so om this one I wanted to make sure I could make them easier to get to! Maybe can give others some ideas. Just have to finish welding a few tubes and I’ll be done.

Looking good! I have been itching to 9 inch my rear end and after seeing yours all tucked up it looks fantastic!

Got the cage wrapped up. Now just adding some bracing where I feel needed. Cut the back of the cab out for more clearance to weld will use aluminum sheet to block it back off once done with everything. Happy with how the cage turned out.

Officially done with the cage! All the extra bracing and stuff I’ve finished. Added a lot of support in places I felt needed. I’m ready to see what this year holds if we ever get to go racing. Truck should be ready to race here in another few weeks. Time will tell as to when tracks open back up.

Also started to rip out the steering. Going to a manual rack and pinion from a older mustang.

Got my goodys in from Andy at southside injection! Pump looks amazing. Ready to put it to use! Also had him go through my new harts injectors and set pop pressures!

Also keeping the budget theme some. I’m re using the valves that came with this head. Did a lot of polishing on the valves trying to make them the best they can be. Should have the head and pump on here in a few hours.

Don’t spray it if you’re running a 13mm pump. You will melt a piston.

I’m spraying the truck to manage intake air temp since I’m non intercooled. Nitrous isn’t as bad as everyone leads it to be. I sprayed enough last year that should of melted all the pistons. All about how you manage things.

Not with a 12mm pump, going to an injection window under 30° of crank angle is another story.

Hadn’t heard any input that 13 made that much of a difference spray wise. Was assuming it was just fuel and heat related. Your much more knowledgeable on the subject then me! I’m not planning to spray much compared to last year at all. Just enough to keep iat and egt happy hopefully. Shouldn’t really need the spray. Have plenty of air.

Was hoping to have a video of firing the truck up this week. But luck have it. USPS decided to loose my custom bent lines for the runner in shopping and now trying to see if they can find them or if there gonna have to pay insurance. Seems like it’s a never ending battle. Always issues somewhere. Anyways, ordered a bunch of stuff from jegs this week should be mounting the rack and the new steering column here in the next couple days. Then it’s time to paint.

Been a busy few weeks. But the truck runs! Got
It fired up on Monday. Now just been doing the small tedious stuff. Plan was to try to make some passes tomorrow night but not looking promising with the weather. Very happy with how the truck is running. Also happy with the decision to go to a mechanical lift pump it is definitely pushing way more fuel the return is a steady stream.

Having issues with the transbrake tho. Hopefully get in touch with goerend tomorrow and see if I can get it figured out. However it drives very nice and Trans is shifting amazing. Line pressure is perfect aswell. Also got the just race parts logger in. It’s a budget friendly setup but seems to be working well. Plan is to run Saturday. With or without the transbrake. Hopefully with it so I can leave hard. If not we will have to see what the new manual brake setup can hold boost wise. Also. The rack and pinion conversion is so worth it. Truck steers like steering a go kart. It’s very easy
