How come performance shops will not return calls???

I have been calling several diesel performance shops trying to get pricing on a set of ball bearing twins. I started about a month ago calling and leaving messages for "the person you need to talk to!" It seems no one know how to size turbos or wants to deal with sizing them or something. How hard can it be to call the turbo manufacturer and tell them whats going on and let their techs come up with the correct products??? Then just call me back and give me a price and all!!! Surely with the economy the way it is these places are not slammed with customers so bad they do not want any more business!

Not sure if I am allowed to do this here...but I want others to know how these shops have treated me! Here are a few of them:

Elite Diesel, Diesel Specialists, Wicked Diesel, Turbonetics Inc, Enterprise Engine, Engineered Diesel (ED), Haisley Machine, River City Turbo, and Industrial Injection!!!


I am at the point right now in my conversion where I need my turbos, head studs, and a few other items. Maybe someone will call me back after they read this!!!
 
Having being arround a performance diesel shop for a while I can just about give the reason. I would think most shops are a bit short handed and have customers that are wanting their trucks back asap. They are trying to get these out of the shop so they can get to the other trucks that keep comming in. The performance diesel industry is challanging and takes persistance. Sometimes while trying to get work out they may forget to return calls. After a long challanging day at the shop most are ready for a cold beer and a bed.
So you have to do the calling back your self sometimes.

Most don't have someone sitting there waiting to answer the phone. Call them several times, you're not bothering them they are just that busy.
 
Yeah most are small shops and are usually working on trucks alot, but mostly the reason for your non returned calls is what your asking for is not a very common thing, there's not too many ball bearing twin sets out that I know of that are a complete bolt up set. So people would have to make a bunch of calls and go through hoops to get you the info you wanted. Maybe contact Piers, I believe they have been fooling with some ball bearing twins.

Well I have talked to them! I told them what I was doing and what I wanted and they all told me they would get some prices together and figure out what would be best and call me back. I have since called them back and they tell me some excuse like their turbo guy has not called them back or something! Now since I wrote this this morning...I have had 3 phone calls on it!!!!

I just want the two turbos! No piping or accessories or anything! Just the turbos!!!

Ha, yeah I realized that after I sent the two texts which is why I didn't send any more:doh:. Congrats man!
 
Sometimes what customers perceive as "excuses" are actually reasons.

Have you considered that maybe they are waiting for their vendors to call them back? BB turbos aren't all that common in the diesel world, they may need some help from their vendor to make sure that you do really get the turbos that are best for you. And the fact that diesel performance makes up a very small part of the turbo market means that the turbo companies probably won't drop everything to give some small (to them) customer some info that is gonna take some work to get.
 
Talk to PDR, I know they set up garret bb twins. I know when I have delt with them in the past they get rite back to you or give you a price on the spot.

I have considered that they are busy...thats why I have waited 3 weeks for a response! I also know that someone will prob have to build these turbos so there is another couple weeks! With that in mind...I started a month ago figuring out what I need so I would have them when I am ready to do the piping! Now I am just about ready for them...and don't even know what sizes to go with!!!

I am leaning towards a couple Borg Warner turbos now that are built. Seems like the more reasonable choice and a lot of shops have used them. No one can tell me anything about Garrett or Turbonetics...so journal bearing it is then! Talking with a couple guys now and they are suppose to get back with me later this afternoon with sizes and prices! Guess I should have asked on here 3 weeks ago! Go COMP D!!!!
 
When Pat had PPE twin our truck they were ball-bearing Garretts. PPE uses exclusively ball-bearing turbos in their kits as far as I know.
 
If you're verbal tone is anything like the textual tone I'm reading, and they caught wind of it, they might be wondering, that if it's so easy, why you don't hang up the phone already, hope to it and stop wasting their time.

Sh*t or get off the pot would be my advice. Seems like you're planning on possibly fabbing it yourself, but you don't have the sac to pick the chargers. Looks like somebody needs to snuggle with wikipedia for a bit.

my experience w/ good (smaller) performance shops is you just gotta hound 'em... if I'm trying to talk w/ someone, I'll just call every 10-15min till I get someone on the horn. Small businesses are tough... We all spend tons of money on this stuff, but it's not like all of that goes into the owners' pockets! Out of their % profit goes overhead :eek:

hiring someone JUST to man the phones just isn't in the budget

it's just one of those things you deal with when dealing with small businesses, and usually, if you want the best/cutting edge **** at the best prices, you're going to be getting it from small businesses.
 
call Tom at Turbo Resource,928-505-0216. he is building my Garrett BB turbo and he has stayed in contact with me the whole time. he usually is around to talk,but if he is not he always calls back.

I HAVE SIZED THE TURBOS!!! I WANT 66 AND 96! I CANNOT BUY GARRETT WITHOUT GOING THROUGH A DEALER! I CALL THE DEALER AND TELL THEM WHAT I WANT AND TO GIVE ME A PRICE! HOW MUCH EASIER IS THAT? CALL OR LOOK IN A PRICE SHEET AND JUST TELL ME! NO REASON IT SHOULD TAKE 3 WEEKS TO DO THAT SHOULD IT?

I am not a expert in sizing them, just telling what I want. I am paying for the turbos so price them accordingly! People call me all the time at work price shopping between us and Home Depot and Lowes! I give them our price and keep going. Most of the time we are the same price and they come here because I gave them the info they wanted when they wanted it! Its ok though...After this post I talked with who I needed to and everything is back on schedule!.....So i guess I will just wipe and get up!
