Monster Pump Mike Torque Converter

How are they balanced if you can bolt them together? Tq converters have to be balanced right? What kind of hp was the test truck putting to the ground?
 
I think he should have more ready to go in the next couple of weeks. I should be getting one installed when Mike puts my head studs in. The truck that the first converter went into didn't have all the supporting mods but I think that mine should be a good test for it. I'm headed over to Mike's this weekend to discuss how I want my TC set-up

Well I finally got one and it should be in this weekend
This is one of the first ones done and Im testing it out for Mike. My truck will be the first Common Rail to run one:rockwoot:
My buddy from Michigan is running one in his VP truck and he is making 750HP+ and he likes it a lot. With my current setup I should be pushing 600HP+ so I will get back with some drive time info. I will also be doing a lock up switch.
He will also be painting the faces yellow

How does it attach to the crank if the flex plate is bolted to the convertor? Just curious.

My buddies haven't seen a need to actually balance a converter with any of them that have been made between all of them. I'd imagine that there would be even less of a need on a motor like these that don't spin any big rpm numbers.

One guy did actually take his to a driveline shop to get it balanced and it only needed a touch of weight to make it perfect.

I'm guessing that the bolt together converters are indexed so they go back together the same way they came apart.

I've been wondering why I've never heard of anyone doing a bolt together converter for the diesel community. Guess they have now!

Yeah the converter is indexed and no I didnt take it apart to get pics. I can tell you that it runs a 15 blade Sonax stator and that alot of the internals are custom made by Mike on his lathe
 
Is this a single disk?

Yes it is a single disc but the clutch has twice the surface area of other companies clutches. I saw the clutch Mike uses vs other companies first hand

As far as how it bolts to the crank he makes a plate that takes the place of the old flexplate

I am guessing you take the convertor apart and that is how it bolts to the crank.

Plate takes place of the flexplate
 
probably just bolt it to it from the back like you would with a stock converter.

My guess is the convertor is unassembled when you bolt the back to the crank, and then you bolt the convertor together. It does look pretty neat, but man that is alot of bolts!

This is exactly right. You guys obvisouly know that there are 6 bolts that bolt the flexplates to the converter in a normal setup. With Mikes torque converter there are 12 bolts holding the plate to the converter:rockwoot: STOUT!!!
