Well I'm stumped on this thing. Fighting some boost leaks with it and a miss. Truck is timed with an eat soot kit. I verified tdc and have a pointer on the balance.

It slipped timing on me after about 10 miles. Rrtimmed at 20 degrees and still has a miss kind of pop to it on the top end or just free reving the engine.

Next issue. Got a few leaks fixed and rugged it. Came up to about 40 psi and made a scwalling noise. I drove it about 3 miles back to shop. My drive was about 20-25 psi cruising with no boost.

Now pulled the turbo compressor cover the and the wheel has no in-out play and the side to side feels normal. The turbine looked as if it might of touched towards the back of the wheel.

So I threw it back on. Started it runs idles fine. As I bring it up in in rpms about 2-2200 it starts a very noticeable wine.

So I guess it's time to pull it apart again? Dunno if the journals are scored in if?

When you shut the motor off the turbo spins freely to a stop.

This is a 471 that was used and has been sitting for quite sometime.

Any help or input is appreciated. Thanks

Is it a whine like a supercharger ? I had the same issue and it's the oil pumps that are made in Usa, the idler gear shaft separates from the pump itself..

^interesting lol. I don't think it's the oil pump tho injust put the engine together and it has about 30 miles on it. I believe the pump was a pdi brand but it was in the first motor I built never had an issue.

Pulling charger about. It has the old 270 thrust in it and see what I got there.

As to the missing I'm going to check the timing again and go from there. I never keyed the gear so I think that's most of my battle with the gear. But I have ran for 4 years before with no issues

If it's not the turbo, definitely check that pump. Mine had about 25 miles on it and it did that lol.

Pulled the turbo apart tonight. The shaft does have some marks at the back journal but it is smooth to run your finger over.

The thrust looks fine. The rear journal had some marks I don't know if this is normal or not.

So after pully it apart I'd say there's nothing wrong with the turbo. I ran it this morning with no turbo I thought I heard the noise but very faint. So I need to pull the cover to key the gear anyway so I'll check everything out.

Also coming up in the rpms right at 2200 it starts a miss and white smoke. I'm going to guess its timing there. As for the noise I have no clue.

I'm going to throw a 360 thrust in and oil seal. It was leaking but very little. Any ideas?

Hopefully it's something simple....

Me too for the life of me I can't figure out the turbo noise. Times running out need to get in the field but I'd really like to get this going to use.

I had a local turbo guy take a look at it apart and said the internals were fine. Definitely have marks in the turbine so maybe it's in the housing?

I'll pull it off when I get back home from work and try again lol

Did you hear any noise if you just spun the turbo by hand ?

Pull the turbo off and have some one hold the oil feed line to the drain and start it, and see if you hear the noise then.. Worth a shot I guess
