Truckers, lets see your rigs!

Have you guys modded small cams much? I'm looking at a butterfly hood that my dad owned 30 years ago and I have a 400 small cam that I bought at an auction for no reason.

Mods would basically be the same, though looking at injector travel it is only .177" on a small cam a big cam is .224" so the potential is much different.

I notice that due to the injector hold downs converting them to 903 dual springs won't work as the hold down will not fit between the springs.

The principles would be the same though.

Ok. It's got a sick 335 in it right now, it had a 262 in it when we had it. I need to see if I can make all this work first, she's pretty rough now.

My KW has a small cam in it. Like Cody said mods are the same. Mine has a big gear drive KT pump, 475 injectors and an HT60. It and a friends truck with a factory 425 hp 3406E battle for last place at the pulls all season long.

That doesn't sound too promising lol. I have an extra wjac 3406b too, I just thought a cummins would be slightly more "correct".

Any 855 will fit in its place.

To get an idea of the difference in injector travel makes to max fuel flow here are some of the numbers I got from an injection shop.

At .224" injector flows 405cc's/1000 cycles, at .242" same injector flows 440cc's, and at .266" the same injector flows 470cc's, and for giggles at .302" which is the travel of a standard KT the same injector flows 505cc's.

Are those real numbers? 400cc should do 600+hp, right?

Not sure what your intention are with it, but to be honest I'd try to leave an 855 in it if you want to pull it.

Before I bought my KW, there was no other motor besides a mechanical 3406. But after all I've learned about 3406s and 855s, an 855 is a better option for a "street" puller.

My 3406 will be "maxed out" come April, for a street puller and my wallet.

Yeah, yeah I know this is all ancient technology. Electronic engines are where it's at.

There isn't really any pulls around here so it'll probably be a weekend worker. It was a tank truck and pup when we had it so it has plenty of rail. My plan was to put a flatbed on it and get a pup.

Yes, for comparison a 475 twin turbo uses an injector that flows 275cc's. A 535hp mechanical N14 uses an injector that flows around 242cc's. The stock 475 injector will support 600hp with very little pump work.

Those numbers are ones I got from the shop that built my injectors, I paid them to do those flow test so I would have a better understanding. Mine actually flow just a hair more than those.

I'd be fine with 500-550 really, I remember running it with the nh and it was depressing even back then. I'm not sure if an 855 will fit right without doing a little work, it looks like they set the grill ahead to put the 335 in it. It's no big deal to set the cab back a bit a build a new hood, it's pretty trashed anyway.

I originally wanted to do a factory length exhd and a 1693ta but keeping one alive would cost a fortune, an iron lung would probably be about the same. I'd like to be able to run it some too.

A friend of mine is planning to build a 1000 hp Big Cam KW showtruck during winter, injectors, cam, turbo and some pumpwork.
