Truckers, lets see your rigs!

Glad I can R&D for you too lol

Thanks, but I'm not going 12v...I need electronics to handle the cruise and the idle up for the crane.

Actually, I'd prefer something new enough the be a PX8 so I don't have CAPS, but I'll take whatever I can find. Like I said, we may just buy a big one and cut an axle out.

Anyone ever been around an Ultrashift? Found a T800 with one that's deep in the price range...2005 with a C13 and an Ultrashift....I figure that's why it's so cheap.
Chris

Ultrashift... Iirc is a computer controled manual transmission usually with centrifuge clutch...
X/Y shifter usually goes out and it's PITA to "feather the clutch" and forget it, if you need to spin the tires to get moving for any reason.. that was a '12 model though..
Right before I got out of big trucks

I wasn't talking about the 12v

It had been mentioned here before that Oester had built a C15 with a bosh QSK fuel system. But I was envisioning something more along the lines similar to what J has pictured. But I was thinking more along the lines of a B/C design.

Any more details J? What does it run for injectors? Road truck?

Race truck, I can’t remember the details. Someone else did it with belt drive pumps.

Which part?

The whole truck, gears, tires, etc?

Chris

Whole set up in general... You obviously know more about the 8.3 platform than I do..

Only thing I'd do different on my current setup to drag implements... Probably left 3.73 gears in... swapped PTO over to it for wet line in case implament needs adjusted.. removable weight/ballast racks for towing stuff with minimal tongue weight... Rear axle weighs 3500-4000lbs empty no trailer.. wouldn't be hard for 15-20k plow to shove rear ended around on a hard stop.. not too mention spinning the tires dragging it

Take the f out. The only one I was ever around would forget what it was doing all the time and shift random gears. It's a regular fuller with an electronically controlled top so a standard trans will go in it's place.

The only thing that has me stumped is your charger...I would never have guess it to do what you've found...

Our FL80 weighs about 13500 lbs without weight, we have about 6K we can strap to it for puling the heavy stuff. We want to go a little longer so we can put a headache rack and vertical exhaust and still have room to swing the crane, so we'll probably end up around 15K if we stay MD. So yes, the weight is helpful...we also have to have the wet line for the crane, but I already have all that.

Your setup is actually about right, and I understand your choices, especially for the cost of your setup...but this will be the last one we hopefully buy for a LONG time and I don't want to keep fighting the same problems we do now. ZERO drivetrain issues on the FL80, but every time we go to use it we have something else broke in the cab, or something new not working.

Absolutely glad your setup is working like you wanted, if this was 2009 I would jump all over a setup like that...but I've owned 2 Freightliner's since approximately 2006, one we bought brand new, and I'm just tired of the issues.

Hopefully you get your turbo slowed down a bit and are really happy!

I don't believe this one has a clutch pedal, so I'm assuming you can swap all those parts around and be good?

Leon Martin does beautiful work.

Should have been single turbo for maximum power and fuel efficiency. Lmao
Where's the pre cooler? ?

That is sexy. What did it do power wise?

The front housings are hideous about Cavitation erosion, like other Navistar.

Knowing what the stock style fuel system can do on a cat, is all that really necessary, definitely cool, how much more power will that produce than what can be made with standard type hardware?

Copied this from another forum, although not a euro Volvo, it is a comment about Volvo powered Mack's, and I thought after hearing the hype across the pond they would be better....

"But how has your Mack with the MP8 been reliable?
We have them here in Australia, but there are terrible! the first ones from 2008 are no good over, The EGR had issues and Sensor issues stopping them on a daily basis
I personally know of two mates here, Mack Australia had to replace two new trucks as they where so bad all within 12 months old
they did have to sign a document to say they wouldn't go to the Press about their experience back in 2008
Mack upgraded them both to Trident Model, they had to pay the difference for the better truck but basically got a full refund on the earlier model Mack
Same engine MP8 but the difference was bigger bonneted truck and 500HP Add Blue MP8 changed from MP8 435 HP EGR
Both mates are much happier with the later and bigger Mack trucks today
Good to see Mack coming to the party to help their Customers"

While I haven't really "timed" it this 362/68 is faster then the gt4088r on my dmax in response time... I think the only reason the 362 is still alive is because of the waste gate and I can't over speed it..

It would not surprise me if I end up with a small s400 charger... I need substaually? more fuel than I have now, along with time and money to get either an external waste gate built or right turbine/housing setup.

This 8.3 just flat move more air than either one of us expected..

I completely understand wanting to buy a truck that will be less problems for you over the next 10-15+ years

Richie Brothers auction is at the end of February in Orlando. Watch and get an education on what your euro trash sells for. You can get Volvo’s and MAN Maxxforce powered trucks for less than a lawnmower. If they’re so good why are they so cheap?
MAN is crap and retarded american brokeback cowboys dont want to drive a Volvo because it doesnt look cool because it does not look like it was made in the 60s. Of course they are built in the USA and to North-American specs so it is possible that they really are crap.

It’s about tuning at that point, much more control and that is what they are after, that wasn’t an all out HP build, made to go around a track.

The 2008-2010 volvo/Mack motors were terrible. Constant injector cup failures so they upgraded to stainless. Then the tips started blowing off the injectors. Bullgear failures too. I know of at least 2 bullgear that completely let loose.

Also, they're retarded to work on, parts are miserable to get and they shed body parts like freightliner. If you get a new truck every 400k, I'm sure they're great.

I did some reading and apparently the one I was thinking of was an autoshift because it had a clutch pedal. The ultras have an electronic clutch, still a regular eaton under the robot parts.
