VP Dynamic Timing Vs. Advancing

I'm sure hoping to hear some feedback soon. I am really hoping that something good comes of this. If my truck is turning 4300rpm now...5* might get me 4600-4700rpm.

What box/programmer are you using? What rpm can you pull to?

im running a comp/redline stack and i can burry the tach at 4K, im thinking in the range of 4300-4400. the truck is still accelerating after the tach hits the 4K stop pin for an extra few seconds

Your truck has a 4k stop pin? My truck goes past 4k, then bounces. Can't you get a reading from the redline box if you set it for rpm?

i took it out for a ride and got 4397 for the max rpm going by the recall on the redline

How long have you been running like this? Is it really laggy down low? Cooler egts now?

its still really laggy down low but i expected that with this charger, i did drop 250-300 degrees at wot and full boost, i have been runninf it like this since the summer

Before you jump to the conclusion that he is actually making more timing. Maybe he should get a timing light and check and see what the timing is. There are guys coming off the line at 43-4500rpm without messing with the gear.

im with kjpcummins, my truck would turn 4300+ no problem with stock timing , and there are many trucks that can do it as well, but i will say it does make some more power up there

did i miss it somewhere, i cant remember if you mentioned, but what turbo are you running on your setup? you mentioned it being a little more laggy, so im guessing youve got a 66 or bigger? when i had a 3* key on my cam, mine was a little slower to spool, but pulled really well up top. BUT, i gained 10 horsepower by moving the cam back to stock (keyway)... but knowing me, i probably had the 3* key in backwards! LOL!

most people that put in a keyway for the cam put it in backwards, they rotate the cam clockwise when looking at the front of the motor, but the cam actually rotates opposit of the crank so that is retarding the cam timing which would hurt spool up but give you some more up top, and if you were asking me what charger im running its a s472

yep, thats what i did! lol! oh well, live and learn! how do you like the 472 as a single?

01cummins- Did you bump your timing up too? I really want to get my truck on the dyno soon. But I just haven't had any time lately. Soon though I'll get it done.

Even if it doesn't get me more rpms, moving 5* should raise my power curve to higher rpms. If this works, I'll be running 4th low & holding 3500rpm...should be a good runner!

ya i used a keyway that should be good for about 5* timing for the pump and i have 6* for the cam,

the s472 as a single is fun and all but it likes to heat soak before it gets lit and starts to cool things off so i go through alot of water with the truck, but it does surprise people how you can drive around the back roads with no boost and it runs fine then you let it lite and it will burry you til you run out of gear
