07-09 6.7L Tuning Update

A couple of days ago EFILive released it's first 6.7L tuning beta. Up until this point testers had been testing the Scan Tool functions on the 6.7L, submitting stock file reads for us to start mapping, but not flashing.

The beta for the 6.7L tuning has had some significant changes made to the architecture of the V7 & V8 software to accommodate for a more flexible means of handling different ECM structures as well as a new file type (.ctz) for storing tune files. These changes will impact on all users of our software when publicly available, not just 6.7L Cummins, so we will need to perform some very thorough testing over the coming weeks for all the controllers we support to ensure older files are still usable in the current software.

The goal set for this first beta was to see that the 6.7L ECM flashes ok, recovers from an interrupted flash and doesn't cause any negative affects once the flash is complete. That side of things has gone very well and all tests pass. Flash times are typically just over 4 minutes.
The 6.7L maps provided to the beta testers were enough for them to make changes to the major tuning tables (eg, Timing, Rail Pressure, VGT etc). Again, things have gone well here too with them able to make changes and see results.
From this point on we will continue to add further functions for beta testing so when we release we have enough tuning tables in there for people to make some significant gains on what is out there at the moment. The beta testers are of the understanding that our first lot of tables probably wasn't going to break any dyno records, we didn't expect this either as that was not the intention of our first round of beta testing. We have seen one truck get as high as 3,800RPM, we will continue to work with the beta testers to get as high in RPM and fuelling abilities as we can on the 5.9L now.

We know people will want release dates, currently Paul (head software developer) is on vacation, Ross leaves the office for 7 weeks at the end of the month, so we are really going to be pushing it to release anything before the SEMA / PRI shows. Thankfully with everything going smoothly in the first round of beta testing we might be able to get a public release out before the SEMA / PRI shows start (but no promises).

We are looking forward to what unfolds in the coming months as the 6.7L tuning develops (along side the 5.9L of course), all those long standing myths and expert opinions on what the 5.9L ECM was capable of were busted in the first 3 months of our 5.9L public release (fully fuelled to 5,300RPM is one example) , 6.7L owners, your world is about to change too.

Cheers
Cindy

We need it.. We want it..

It will be a big impact to the 6.7L tuner game.

Many like me need the RPM and fuel ability...

I am REALY looking forward to it!

Keep up the great work ... And let me know where to send my money for one!

Family, god and Efi live.

I don't use that word when talking to women but you've captured a special place in my heart Cindy.

Sorry for the derail BTW...

I'm hoping tcm tuning will help w that... if not a Conversion of some sort will be in my future.

Already killed a trans...it works! LOL

Sorry Glen, but i'm trying to place which one yours was in beta? Are you a tester or did someone in beta tune it? I ask because this is the first i've heard of a trans failure already with the 6.7 and efilive (not saying its impossible by any means).... just wondering

Not sure yet what happened to the transmission. I rolled into the throttle in 3rd and when it went to go to fourth it just slid into gear and then went to limp mode. Sounded like a planetary came apart by the grinding noises it made after that.
This was not a stock truck also...

The 3-4 shift is the most dangerous shift in a 68, unlike what most believe to be the 5-6. Primarily resulting from how the internals were reworked to fit the original 54rfe casing. I personally toasted 3-4 in my original 68rfe with a stg 2 bg tcm tune. The truck was at high 5**'s at that point.

07-09 6.7L support will be in our next public release. It won't encompass everything (ie DPF), but the feedback from beta is that their results are the same if not comparable to other products on the market.

With the 'little' support we've needed to finalise the first release parameters with our BETA group it seems foolish to wait until we return from SEMA and PRI to release this. While Ross won't be physically able to 'develop' support/new parameters/make coding changes while he's gone, Paul our software developer will be on deck, and our support teams will still be in place so it will be 'business as usual'. (Although not quite as accessible as normal during the trade shows).

In addition to direct support from EFILive, customers will also have access to their dealer and forums for additional assistance. Beta testers and long term users of our product have been very strong in supporting customers who make the switch.

Time frame? we are still working through an exact date, but Ross leaves in 7 days.

Cheers

WOW!!! Speedy.

One quick question. Based on what you guys have seen, and how long it took on the 5.9. When would you estimate to release most of the rest of the parameters? I know that there's a couple of guys leaving and such, just curious as to what your goal is on the rest of the program.

Thanks, keep up the good work.

Dave
