What kind of RPM's do you need to keep from falling under a 2.8" turbo?

Depends on turbine housing, turbine wheel, cam, timing, fueling etc.

Well, I'm looking at the HT-72 Turbonetics unit with a .81 A/R housing. A helix 2 cam, 022 DV's, 4K gsk, Rack plug, 435 injectors, and somewhere around 20-24* timming.

I know there is variables in here, but I need to see what rpm's I need to keep to help me choose my gearing. I'm putting a D80 in the rear this winter and am going to start collecting parts.

I'm not 100% sure that is the turbo I will go with. I'm open minded on the 2.8 turbos, but want to keep some streetability to the truck.

Id say as long as you stay above 3500 youll be good

Atleast that how my 2.8 is

$.02

Auto will make a difference, you can't run the big housings that the manual guys run.

You can't get the charger spooled. I have some videos if you would like to see.

I run my hx50 2.8 17cm housing with marine 300's 17* 4gsk and a 500cc pump. Running low 3rd with 3.55's and 285/75/16 never got under it. Boost was 64 to 70 lbs. It would hold 3650 to 3800 down the track. Tim

Well The first thing I would do is send the pump to a big name diesel shop. Scheids, Hasileys, ect. I would set it up for 4500 -5000 rpms. I would run a good set springs and retainers. You should be able to still drive on the street. Call J.P. At Scheids he'll hook you up.

Remember Rpms for pulling should be 4500+ 355 gears low range second gear in tranny should let run right up there.

Good call, second low would yield a whopping 15.06mph at 4500rpm with 33" tall tires.:hehe:

Yeah, not what I want...lol

I'm going to regear my truck to 4.10's when I put the D80 in the rear. I'm looking for 3000-4200rpm's down the track. If I can keep the charger going with 3000rpm, then I should be good. I guess the smaller the exhaust housing the lower the rpm's I can keep things going, but I will choke sooner also.

I am guessing your talking about an auto, so 2nd low with 3.54 isn't that bad.

Hey Tom. I run my 02 at 3200rpms down the track at 22-24mph second gear low with 33's with 3.55s not a problem Truck runs very good. Others 12 valve run the same setup and they run close to 4500+ and they run supper with that setup.
