Our driver likes running 65-70mph when he's able, and even if he's narrow he's hauling a sail normally...he's found if he runs 55mph and takes it easy he can get 5.4-5.6mpg instead of his normal 4.7-4.8mpg range...we told him drive how he's happy, the extra fuel over a years time isn't worth us having an unhappy driver to deal with.
I would agree with you though...or customer who hauls grain can average 5.8mpg or so across 6 trucks, all 475-550hp at 80-85K gross every trip. They haul grain down and fertilizer or salt back every trip. 70 mile runs.
