Shopping for the primary to go with my 62/68/14. Looking at a billet S478. Getting mixed feedback on ex. housing size to go with. Was looking at the 92 wheel with a 1.1ar and also the 96 1.32. One vendors input is the 92 is old school and not much gain in spool over the 96 and also not needed on a cr. Other vendor thinks the 92 1.1 is an excellent choice. So Im looking for some input based on experience between the 2. Trucks in my sig. Has the fuel for 800+hp but only wanting a fun steetable 750 without pushing the chargers to their limit. Able to tow good but still have some good topend. I consider both vendors very knowledgeable so its making the decission tough. Want to get this right the first time.

Man I know the feeling.... I need a turbo upgrade myself. Single, Twins, Single, Twins????
ED 63/68/14 or ED custom built s300/s400 twins, or go with Garretts for the twins....

Driving me nuts. Been reading and researching for 2 weeks.

I switched from a s475/96/1.32 to a s478/92/1.1 The s478 has better low end response Vs the s475 and runs about 100 deg cooler on the top end, and it pulls harder on top as well. All around a better turbo, mine isnt the billet wheel. But so far i have really enjoyed the switch.

Good info. Thanks for sharing it.

I went from a 75/96/1.32 to a 82/92/1.10, changed nothing else. Just much more of a pleasure to drive. Better low end spool up and don't feel like I've lost anything on the top.

A 96 stuffed into a 1.10 housing isn't a 1.10 anymore.

Ive had 4 different single S300 based turbos and they all had their places they performed. None of them do everything across the board well.

So far the 1.1 is sounding good. From the input seems like going with a larger compressor negates the the tighter exhaust housing. Quicker spool without suffering too much on the top end.

I know you are right, I might as well suck it up an go for twins. I am not
keeping the 62/71/13ss as a secondary though.

So it spools better than the 75? Or just really good for its size?

My "Butt Dyno" thinks it spools a bit faster. I would say its very comparable damn near a bit faster for the most part. I am very pleased for how it spools for a big charger. Then again it may also be part of the fact it has the Billet wheel too.

Define top end?

My s480 getting the screws put to it is almost at a 2:1 drive to boost ratio, that's in the 1.32 housing just can't see the 1.1 being more favorable on top at least in max power production.

I'm curious if it is the billet wheel also. 6 or 7 blade?

7 Blade. I remember reading a thread where they weighed the billet wheels vs stockers and it was a good amount of savings.

Who ever told you the 92mm turbine wheel is old school...avoid. lol. That turbine wheel is flat outstanding. All the customers trucks that are running it, love it.

If your at 2:1, then its time for a bigger turbine wheel for sure....lol. A/R's are pretty worthless when pressures get that high.
