Regular cab resto and build

Grapevine

THE GRAPE!
While riding in a Jeep halfway across the nation I figured I would start a build thread that will be underway when I get back to Oklahoma. I recently purchased a regular cab truck that had been parked on a treeline for the past 5 years for a member on here (which I'm sure will chime in sooner or later). This truck was known as the doghouse for their boxer lol. It has been missing the passenger door for some time so the dog took advantage of it. It will be completely stripped and rebuilt, painted, wired and ready to hit the race track. I will be pulling the engine out of my daily driver and putting in this truck and then returning my daily back to stock or real close. The engine hp is unknown but with the bad cam it went 11.73@115 and 7000# and seems to be much stronger now with the new rebuild, new Hamilton cam, balanced P7100 set at 600cc by Seth Farrell and a few other small upgrades. ISSPRO is sending me their performax datalogger and gauges including speedo and tach so I will be building a custom dash for them along with a custom wire harness with switch panel for anything electrical. I will try and keep updated as much as possible. Enjoy :)

A little about the modifications on the truck currently. BD Diesel 64.5/82.2 compounds, p7100 conversion as stated, Custom DV's, 6x18 injectors, FASS 240, 4k springs with some kind of voodoo because they turn almost 6k, fire rings, Hamilton 188/220 cam, Hamilton valve springs, fluidampr, BD Diesel intercooler and boots, transmission is built by premier transmission in Grove, OK. and torque converter is from Valair/DPC. I don't plan on making many changes with the engine this year, just want to get the truck done and racing and get the kinks worked out and go from there.

Picked up a fuel cell on my trip for $100 with sending unit only used once. 15 gallon should do the job and get rid of a little weight.

Watching this as well. Looks like it should be a good build. Any goal as far as 1/4 mile times when it's finished?

I don't have any real goals but I would expect high 10's St the least considering the weight difference and how much better the truck runs now. I'll take the maroon truck to the track in the next couple weeks to see how it does and then should have a better idea of where it will be. Although I considered it I Don't have any plans on short bedding it at the moment. I will do some weight shaving here and there but I'm not going to get to crazy with it.

Found a boost leak and replaced the boot and wow what a difference it made. Expectations are much higher than before. I went from 60psi of boost to 90psi and a huge gain in power. Had the boot not been seen I would have never guessed it had a hole in it hiding next to the clamp.

Also looking for undercoating suggestions for the frame. Anyone used any that they liked and didn't have issues with holding up?

Chassis saver paint for the frame seems to work good. I'd think an undercoating will add unnecessary weight. Great build!

I completely agree with undercoating adding weight. It's thick and it doesn't need anything like that just something to pretty it up a bit.

I just did a truck with KBS frame coater kit and it was some pretty tough stuff. But that was only a month ago so we don't know the longevity of it yet.

Looks like a cool project can't wait to see it finished

I'll look into that!

I finally got the parts truck yesterday so if the weather will get warmer I will start on body work. I don't want to dust up the shop with that jazz so for now I will work on drive train stuff. I have plenty of that to do.
